Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde Reviews Goregaon’s Mrunaltai Gore Flyover Extension, Says Overall Quality Is Satisfactory
Mayor Orders Minor Repairs, Finishing Work and More Greenery Amid Public Feedback
Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited and inspected the newly extended section of the Mrunaltai Gore Flyover in Goregaon (West) on Tuesday following online discussions and criticism about the project’s quality. After reviewing the structure, she said the overall construction quality appeared satisfactory and directed officials to complete remaining work quickly.
The inspection covered the extended stretch connecting Ram Mandir Road to Relief Road. During the visit, the Mayor walked across the flyover and checked several construction aspects, including road alignment, curved sections, joints and overall engineering standards.
She was accompanied by local corporators Sandeep Patel and Preeti Satam, along with senior officials from the bridge department.
Mayor Highlights Areas for Improvement
While expressing satisfaction with the flyover’s quality, Ritu Tawde instructed officials to immediately address minor uneven patches seen at some points of the road. She also asked them to complete pending finishing work and improve road edges wherever required.
In addition, the Mayor suggested adding more signboards to improve commuter guidance and recommended developing vertical gardens and greenery along both sides of the flyover to make the surrounding area visually better.
Speaking after the inspection, Tawde said that the flyover’s quality looked good overall but small improvements would help create a smoother and more pleasant travel experience for people.
Engineers Explain Surface Design and Future Road Experience
Bridge department engineers informed the Mayor that a 40-mm thick mastic asphalt layer has been used as the top road surface. According to officials, although the surface may currently feel slightly rough in some areas, it is expected to settle and become smoother after regular vehicle movement.
Officials explained that this construction method was selected because it provides waterproofing, protects against corrosion and increases the long-term durability of the bridge.
Flyover Expected to Deliver Better Driving Experience
After reviewing the technical details, Mayor Tawde said commuters are expected to experience smoother travel once regular traffic movement begins and the surface adjusts naturally over time.
She also instructed departments to complete all remaining minor works before the flyover reaches full operational use.
