KDMC Holds Free Cancer Screening Camp For Women Under Mission Shakti On International Women’s Day 2026

Marking International Women’s Day 2026, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) organised a free cancer screening camp for women under the Mission Shakti initiative. The health camps were conducted on March 8 at Vasant Valley Hospital and Shastrinagar General Hospital.

The initiative focused on spreading awareness about cancer prevention and encouraging early detection, particularly for breast and cervical cancer, which are among the most common cancers affecting women.

Free Screening And Medical Guidance

Women attending the camp were offered free medical examinations, cancer screening, and expert consultations. The programme was supported by specialists from Tata Memorial Hospital, one of India’s leading cancer treatment and research institutions.

Doctors and health experts guided participants about early symptoms of cancer, preventive healthcare practices, and the importance of regular medical check-ups. The aim was to ensure that women are better informed about recognising warning signs and seeking timely treatment.

Officials Stress Preventive Healthcare

During the programme held at Vasant Valley Hospital, Harshali Chaudhari, Mayor of KDMC, and Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goel addressed attendees and highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare for women.

Several officials and representatives were present at the event, including:

  • Prasad Borkar, Deputy Commissioner (Health)
  • Kanchan Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner (Women and Child Welfare)
  • Dr Deepa Shukla, Medical Health Officer

Corporators Shalini Vayle, Tanuja Vayle, and Vijaya Pote also attended the event and appreciated the efforts made by the municipal health department.

Screening At Shastrinagar Hospital

A similar screening camp was organised at Shastrinagar General Hospital in Dombivli West. A trained medical team from Tata Memorial Centre conducted cancer screening and health consultations for women attending the camp.

Local representatives including Dr Ravina Mhatre, Vrushali Joshi, and Ramesh Mhatre addressed participants and encouraged women to prioritise their health through regular check-ups.

Other dignitaries such as Jyoti Pawan Patil, Rasika Patil, Mrudula Nakhe, Asavari Navre, Ranjana Penkar, and Shashikant Kamble were also present during the programme.

Strong Participation From Women

The initiative received a positive response from local residents, with around 307 women undergoing screening during the camps. Health officials said the strong participation indicates growing awareness about the importance of early cancer detection among women.

Authorities added that similar initiatives will continue under the Mission Shakti campaign to promote preventive healthcare and regular screening programmes for women in the region.

By organising such health camps, the civic body aims to ensure that more women gain access to early diagnosis, timely treatment, and better healthcare awareness.
