MHADA Unveils Major Reforms: 15 Crore Documents to Go Public, New Digital Services Rolled Out, and Diwali Housing Lottery Announced
Boosting Transparency: 15 Crore Documents to Go Public
In a major step towards citizen-centric governance, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced that approximately 15 crore official documents will be made publicly accessible.
Within a week, these scanned documents will be uploaded to the official MHADA website. Sensitive and classified files, however, will remain protected to ensure data security.
According to Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, this initiative is designed to reduce citizens' dependency on Right to Information (RTI) applications and make access to public information "straightforward and hassle-free."
Simplifying Public Services with Digital Transformation
MHADA is aggressively pushing its digital transformation agenda.
Several new services were inaugurated to streamline citizen interactions:
- A Citizen Facilitation Centre with 18 counters for document processing.
- A Visitor Management System to digitally track visitors.
- A DG Entry System allowing one-time digital registration and facial recognition-based gate access.
- An Office Locator System to help citizens navigate the MHADA headquarters with ease.
At the facilitation centre, all submitted documents will be scanned and immediately returned to citizens, minimizing wait times and enhancing service efficiency.
To bridge rural-urban gaps, MHADA has also appointed dedicated grievance redressal staff and organized Janata Darbar’s to resolve issues on the ground.
Diwali Bonanza: 5,000 Homes Up for Grabs in Mumbai
In a much-anticipated announcement, MHADA revealed plans to launch a lottery for 5,000 homes this Diwali.
The Mumbai Board's Diwali-time lottery aims to help more citizens realize the dream of owning a home amid Mumbai’s soaring real estate prices.
Key Points:
- Details about the location and pricing of homes will be announced soon.
- Housing projects are being closely monitored with monthly reviews at the Chief Minister's War Room to ensure timely completion.
The demand for MHADA homes continues to soar. Earlier this year, MHADA received 1.29 lakh registrations for just 2,030 homes, highlighting the pressing need for affordable housing.
Tackling Unsold Inventory and Expanding Housing Stock
Despite having 19,500 ready-to-sell homes, MHADA had managed to sell only 7,500 units initially. However, through a focused campaign over recent months, these 7,500 units have been successfully sold — a positive shift in tackling inventory challenges.
Going forward, MHADA aims to continue fast-tracking housing initiatives to meet the growing demand.
Embracing Technology and Future Goals
MHADA is also embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to further boost operational efficiency and ensure timely project completion.
From tracking visitors digitally to automating service delivery, MHADA is positioning itself as a future-ready public body.
Sanjeev Jaiswal affirmed that under MHADA’s renewed vision, the authority is committed to delivering 6.5 lakh homes across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in the near future — creating a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-first housing ecosystem.
Conclusion
With the release of 15 crore documents, new citizen facilitation initiatives, the upcoming Diwali housing lottery, and a strong push towards digitalization and AI adoption, MHADA under the leadership of Sanjeev Jaiswal is clearly marking a new era of public service transformation.
