Residents of Mumbai woke up to clear skies and relatively warm weather on Monday, March 16, even as temperatures showed a slight dip compared to the previous week. Along with the pleasant weather conditions, the city’s air quality has also improved noticeably over the past 24 hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai is expected to experience mainly clear skies throughout the day, with temperatures likely to range between 22°C and 33°C.
The weather department has not issued any specific alerts, offering residents a brief period of stable weather after recent fluctuations.

Neighbouring regions, however, are experiencing slightly warmer conditions:

These temperatures reflect a marginal decline compared to the higher readings recorded across Mumbai last week.
Overall AQI Remains In ‘Moderate’ Category
Despite the warm weather, air quality in Mumbai has shown significant improvement. Data from AQI.in indicates that the city is currently recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 53, which falls in the ‘Moderate’ category.
The latest readings suggest a clear improvement compared to earlier levels recorded this month, with air quality remaining largely stable over the last 24 hours.
Several Areas Record ‘Good’ Air Quality
Multiple monitoring stations across Mumbai have reported ‘Good’ air quality levels, indicating cleaner air in several parts of the city.
Among the areas reporting better AQI readings:
- Gamdevi – AQI 15

- Breach Candy – AQI 23
These readings fall comfortably within the ‘Good’ category, indicating improved environmental conditions in these localities.
Uneven Air Quality In Some Pockets

- Marashi Nagar recorded an AQI of 311, placing it in the ‘Severe’ category
- Sion (Station 2) recorded an AQI of 290, classified as ‘Unhealthy’
Meanwhile, other areas reported ‘Poor’ air quality levels, including:

Understanding AQI Categories
According to standard air quality classifications:
- 0–50: Good
- 51–100: Moderate
- 101–200: Poor
- 201–300: Unhealthy
- Above 300: Severe or hazardous
While the overall city AQI currently remains within the moderate range, the variation across monitoring stations highlights localized pollution levels that continue to affect certain neighbourhoods.
For now, clear skies and improved air quality offer a temporary respite for Mumbai residents, though authorities continue to monitor environmental conditions closely.
