KDMC Launches Tender for Mothagaon–Thakurli Railway Overbridge, Sets 24-Month Completion Goal
Long-Awaited Diva–Vasai Corridor Bridge Project Moves Forward to Ease Traffic in Kalyan-Dombivli
In a major infrastructure update for daily commuters, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has officially started the tender process for the long-pending Mothagaon–Thakurli Railway Overbridge (ROB) on the busy Diva–Vasai railway corridor. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve travel connectivity across the region.
Tender Process Begins After Push for Faster Action
According to civic officials, the overbridge project had remained delayed for a long time despite receiving approvals. The latest move comes after local MLA Rajesh More urged the municipal administration to accelerate execution and address increasing traffic pressure in the area.
Officials confirmed that the tender has now been issued, marking an important step toward starting construction.
Key Infrastructure Project to Improve Daily Commute
The Mothagaon–Thakurli Railway Overbridge is considered a major transport upgrade for Kalyan-Dombivli. The project received approval through efforts led by Kalyan Member of Parliament Dr. Shrikant Shinde and is expected to provide long-term relief to residents and motorists affected by traffic bottlenecks.
The estimated tender-related expenditure has been set at ₹35.44 lakh. Once awarded, the selected contractor will be required to complete the bridge construction within 24 months.
Traffic Congestion Increased After Mankoli Bridge Opening
Speaking on the project, MLA Rajesh More said traffic movement in the Mothagaon–Thakurli area has increased sharply since the opening of Mankoli Bridge, putting added pressure on local roads.
He noted that commuters often face long waits at the railway crossing, especially during peak travel hours, leading to delays and inconvenience. The proposed overbridge is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time significantly.
Pre-Allocation Meeting Scheduled for June 23
As part of the next phase, KDMC has scheduled a pre-allotment meeting on June 23 at the City Engineer’s office. Following this meeting, authorities are expected to finalize the tender award and complete remaining procedures before construction begins.
Earlier, KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel had assured that the project would be treated as a priority and moved forward without further delay.
Major Relief Expected for Kalyan-Dombivli Residents
With the tender process now underway, the Mothagaon–Thakurli Railway Overbridge project is expected to become a key infrastructure improvement for Kalyan-Dombivli. Once completed, the bridge is likely to ease traffic congestion, improve road connectivity, and make daily travel smoother for thousands of commuters using the Diva–Vasai corridor.
