Maharashtra Signs MoU for Navi Mumbai International MediCity, India’s First Global Healthcare Hub

Mega Healthcare Project to Transform Maharashtra into a Global Medical Destination

In a landmark move for India’s healthcare sector, the Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cleveland Clinic, Brookfield Asset Management and Arodhan Health City to develop the Navi Mumbai International MediCity — a large-scale integrated healthcare and life sciences hub planned near Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joining the event virtually from Mumbai. He described the project as a major step towards supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Heal in India’, aimed at making India a preferred destination for world-class healthcare and medical tourism.

Navi Mumbai MediCity to Become a Global Healthcare Ecosystem

Spread across nearly 250 acres, the Navi Mumbai International MediCity is being planned as one of the world’s most ambitious healthcare developments. The project aims to create a complete healthcare ecosystem where treatment, education, research, innovation and skill development will function together in one location.

According to the Maharashtra government, the project will set a new global benchmark by bringing multiple healthcare services and institutions under a single integrated campus.

Cleveland Clinic to Lead Healthcare and Innovation

As part of the partnership, Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s leading healthcare institutions, will play the role of the anchor institution for the project.

The organization is expected to contribute its expertise in advanced medical treatment, patient care, medical education, clinical research and healthcare innovation.

Chief Minister Fadnavis welcomed the participation of Cleveland Clinic and expressed appreciation to its leadership, including CEO Dr. Tom Mihaljevic and Dr. Sameer Kapadia, along with industrialist Lakshmi Mittal, for supporting the initiative.

World-Class Hospitals, Medical Colleges and AI-Based Healthcare Facilities Planned

The proposed MediCity will go beyond traditional hospital infrastructure. The development plan includes:

  • International-standard hospitals
  • Medical and nursing colleges
  • Clinical and medical research centers
  • Biotechnology and life sciences facilities
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven healthcare innovation
  • Wellness infrastructure
  • Allied healthcare services

The objective is to create a collaborative environment where doctors, researchers, students, innovators and healthcare companies can work together.

USD 1.2 Billion Investment and More Than 10,000 Jobs Expected

The Navi Mumbai International MediCity project is expected to attract investments worth around USD 1.2 billion.

Officials estimate that the development will generate over 10,000 direct employment opportunities, creating significant economic and healthcare benefits for Maharashtra.

The project is also expected to boost related sectors such as biotechnology, medical research, education and healthcare services.

Maharashtra Government Assures Full Support

The Maharashtra government has assured institutional support for the project and committed to facilitating approvals and clearances as per existing policies and regulations.

Officials believe the MediCity will strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the state and help position Maharashtra as a major global center for medical excellence and healthcare innovation.

A Big Push for Medical Tourism and Healthcare Growth in Maharashtra

With this ambitious development, Maharashtra aims to strengthen India’s presence in global healthcare and attract international patients, healthcare professionals and investments.

Once completed, the Navi Mumbai International MediCity is expected to emerge as one of India’s largest integrated healthcare and life sciences destinations, creating new opportunities in healthcare, education, research and medical tourism.
