First Tesla Supercharging Station In India Is Now Live In Mumbai: All You Need To Know
Tesla has officially marked its operational debut in India with the launch of its first Supercharging Station in Mumbai. Just weeks after unveiling its first showroom in the city, Tesla India has now energized its first Supercharging facility at One BKC, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), making it the first of its kind in the country. This development signals Tesla’s aggressive push into the Indian EV ecosystem.
Where Is Tesla’s First Supercharging Station Located?
Tesla’s first Supercharging Station is strategically located at One BKC, Bandra Kurla Complex, one of Mumbai’s busiest commercial hubs. The setup includes:
- Four V4 Supercharging stalls (DC fast chargers)
- Four Destination Charging stalls (AC chargers)
While the V4 Superchargers are capable of delivering a peak output of 250 kW, the current active charging rate at this location is 11 kW. The pricing has been confirmed at ₹24/kW for fast DC charging and ₹11/kW for slower AC charging. Tesla claims these high-speed chargers can deliver up to 300 kilometers of range in just 14 minutes, significantly reducing EV charging wait times for commuters.
More Charging Stations Coming Soon
This launch is just the beginning. Tesla is set to expand its Indian footprint further, not only by launching more superchargers in Mumbai but also by establishing its presence in Delhi and surrounding regions.
According to official sources, Delhi will soon get:
- Four Supercharging Stations
- 16 Superchargers
- 15 Destination Chargers
Mumbai isn’t being left behind either. Apart from BKC, Tesla is working to open charging stations in:
- Lower Parel
- Navi Mumbai
- Thane
This expansion will play a crucial role in alleviating the “range anxiety” often cited as a barrier to EV adoption in India.
Tesla Model Y: Available for Pre-Orders
Tesla’s entry into India is headlined by the launch of its Model Y, now available for pre-booking via the Tesla India website. The Model Y is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be the only model available in India during the initial phase.
Customers across various Indian states can place their orders online. However, Tesla has stated that priority delivery will be offered in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram. Other eligible states include:
- Maharashtra
- Karnataka
- Telangana
- Tamil Nadu
- Gujarat
- Delhi (NCR)
The move demonstrates Tesla's focus on metropolitan regions with higher EV demand and existing infrastructure support.
Why This Matters for India’s EV Ecosystem
Tesla’s entry brings more than just luxury electric vehicles to Indian roads — it signals a larger shift in the country’s approach toward electric mobility. By installing high-speed Superchargers and establishing showrooms in major cities, Tesla is also nudging other automakers and governments to invest in supporting EV infrastructure.
As Tesla prepares for a full-scale rollout, India’s EV ecosystem could see a domino effect — better infrastructure, wider EV adoption, and more global players entering the space.
