Mumbai Weather LATEST Update: Cloud Cover Brings Temporary Relief as Cold Wave Likely to Revisit Maharashtra

Mumbai and large parts of Maharashtra are witnessing fluctuating weather conditions as lingering cloud cover continues after recent unseasonal showers. While the chill that gripped the state earlier has eased for now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that colder nights and early mornings could return once skies clear over the coming days.

According to weather officials, cloudiness is currently acting as a blanket, preventing sharp drops in temperature. However, this relief is expected to be temporary.

Cloudy Skies to Persist Across Coastal Maharashtra

IMD forecasts indicate that Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar and other Konkan coastal districts are likely to remain under cloudy skies on January 5. In some isolated pockets, especially during early morning hours, light fog may also be observed.

The recent cold spell has weakened significantly, keeping temperatures relatively comfortable across the region. Mumbai’s minimum temperature is expected to hover around 19°C, while daytime temperatures could rise to nearly 32°C, slightly warmer than earlier this week.

Similar weather conditions are anticipated across neighbouring coastal districts, with mild mornings and gradually warming afternoons.

Temporary Relief From Chill, But Cold May Return

Meteorologists explain that cloud cover prevents heat from escaping at night, leading to warmer minimum temperatures. Once skies begin to clear, however, Maharashtra could again experience cooler nights and early mornings, especially in interior and semi-urban regions.

Weather experts have indicated that if cloud cover reduces in the coming days, a renewed cold wave-like situation cannot be ruled out, particularly across northern and central parts of the state.

Comfortable Days, Watchful Nights Ahead

For now, residents can expect pleasant daytime conditions, making outdoor activities more comfortable. However, the IMD has advised people to stay alert to daily weather updates, as rapid changes in cloud cover could quickly alter night-time temperatures.

With January traditionally known for weather fluctuations, Mumbai and coastal Maharashtra are likely to continue seeing alternating phases of mild warmth and cooler spells in the days ahead.
