Maharashtra Government Promises Faster Urban Development, Housing, and Infrastructure Projects Across the State
Assembly Assured of Action on Pending Approvals, PMAY Housing, AMRUT Funding, STP Projects, and Urban Infrastructure Development
The Maharashtra government has assured the State Legislative Assembly that it will actively consider demands related to urban development, housing projects, infrastructure funding, and pending approvals. The commitment came during the discussion on Supplementary Demands, where the government outlined additional financial support for several major urban development programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), AMRUT Mission, Swachh Maharashtra Mission, and preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
The announcement reflects the state's continued focus on improving urban infrastructure, expanding housing opportunities, strengthening municipal services, and accelerating development projects across Maharashtra.
Government Commits to Speed Up Urban Development Projects
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal said the government remains committed to speeding up urban development works across Maharashtra. She assured lawmakers that suggestions and requests regarding pending development proposals, urban planning approvals, recruitment under the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR), and major infrastructure projects would receive positive consideration.
The government emphasized that balanced urban growth remains one of its key priorities, with special attention given to improving public infrastructure and civic facilities in rapidly growing cities.
Additional Funding Announced for PMAY, Nagarotthan, and Pilgrimage Projects
The supplementary budget includes financial support for several important urban development programs. One of the major allocations will strengthen projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which continues to provide affordable housing for eligible families across Maharashtra.
Funding has also been earmarked for the Nagarotthan Yojana, a program focused on upgrading urban infrastructure and civic amenities in cities and towns.
The government further announced financial provisions for projects approved under the state's Pilgrimage Development Master Plan, aimed at improving infrastructure and facilities at important religious destinations across Maharashtra.
Strong Financial Support for AMRUT Mission and Kumbh Mela Preparations
The Maharashtra government has also allocated funds for its share of the AMRUT Mission, which focuses on improving water supply, sewerage systems, drainage, and urban infrastructure in cities.
A major financial provision of nearly ₹3,000 crore has been proposed for preparations related to the upcoming Kumbh Mela. The funding will support large-scale infrastructure development, public amenities, sanitation, transportation, and other essential services required to manage millions of visitors expected during the religious event.
Budget Includes STP Projects and Swachh Maharashtra Mission Grants
Improving sanitation and wastewater management remains another important focus of the supplementary budget.
The government confirmed that adequate funding has been provided for Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) projects in municipal councils across the state. These projects are expected to improve wastewater treatment, support environmental sustainability, and strengthen urban sanitation infrastructure.
The supplementary demands also include provisions for releasing pending grants under the Swachh Maharashtra Mission to urban local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions. The funding will help local governments continue sanitation, cleanliness, and waste management initiatives.
Municipal Corporations to Receive Additional Infrastructure Support
The Maharashtra government has proposed additional financial assistance for municipal corporations to strengthen administrative infrastructure and improve the delivery of public services.
The supplementary budget also includes funding for:
- Construction of hostels for working women.
- Implementation of the Urban Transport Phase-III project.
- Upgrading essential civic amenities across cities.
- Special urban development schemes for municipal corporations.
- Infrastructure projects being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
These investments are expected to improve transportation, public facilities, and overall urban living standards while supporting long-term economic growth.
Government Promises Faster Decisions on Pending Urban Proposals
Responding to concerns raised by Assembly members, Minister Madhuri Misal assured lawmakers that the government would give serious consideration to pending development proposals, urban planning matters, and infrastructure-related requests from different regions of the state.
She said the government's goal is to ensure quicker approvals, better civic infrastructure, stronger municipal services, expanded affordable housing, improved sanitation systems, and continued investment in urban transportation.
The government's latest commitments reinforce Maharashtra's broader strategy of promoting sustainable urban development through increased infrastructure spending, better planning, and stronger support for local bodies. With additional funding now proposed for housing, sanitation, transportation, and civic infrastructure, the state aims to accelerate development projects while improving the quality of life for residents across Maharashtra.
