UCC To Be Implemented Across All BJP-Led NDA States Before 2029, Says Amit Shah in Mumbai

Amit Shah Sets 2029 Target for Uniform Civil Code Rollout

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be introduced in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before 2029. Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai on Sunday, Shah said several states have already taken steps toward implementing the UCC.

Shah said the government remains committed to creating a common legal framework for personal laws that applies equally to citizens, regardless of their religion.

“We have introduced the Uniform Civil Code in several states. I am confident that we will implement the UCC in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before 2029,” Shah said.

His statement highlights the NDA government's plan to expand the UCC framework across more states during the current political term.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan to Focus on Public Service

Shah was in Mumbai to discuss preparations for the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, which will be organized to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

The campaign will focus on public service, development programs and efforts to connect people with government welfare schemes. It will also highlight major initiatives and achievements of the NDA government.

The campaign will include a 12-point program covering activities such as blood donation drives, Namo Seva programs, gratitude events, musical and theatrical presentations, and Anganwadi services.

Other planned activities include the Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra, Vadnagar-Varanasi and Varanasi-Vadnagar yatras, and the Seva Setu campaign. Government officials and party workers will also work to ensure that welfare schemes reach people at the block and taluka levels.

Shah Highlights Government's National Security Approach

During the Mumbai press conference, Shah also spoke about the government's approach to national security and terrorism.

He said surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor reflected the government's policy of taking strong action against terrorism. According to Shah, national security has remained a major priority for the NDA government.

He also pointed to several major decisions and national projects, including the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Infrastructure and Development Also in Focus

Shah highlighted improvements in India's railway network and other infrastructure projects while discussing the government's development record.

He also said the government had made progress in addressing long-standing security challenges, including Naxalism and issues in the Northeast. These areas, he said, had remained important concerns for India's internal security for many years.

The Home Minister presented these initiatives as part of the government's broader focus on national development, connectivity and security.

Amit Shah Highlights India's Economic Growth

Shah also spoke about India's changing position in the global economy. He said the country had moved from being described as one of the world's “Fragile Five” economies to becoming one of the world's top five economies.

Citing India's 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter, Shah said India continues to record strong economic performance compared with other major economies.

He said the government's development agenda would continue alongside its focus on security and public welfare.

Government Reaffirms Stand on Illegal Immigration

Shah also reiterated the government's position on illegal immigration. He said the government would continue efforts to identify people who have entered the country illegally and take steps to remove them.

The comments came as Shah outlined the NDA government's priorities on national security, economic development, public service and governance.
