Mumbai, July 14, 2026: The most memorable part of a tree plantation drive in Mumbai this week was not the saplings—it was a simple pencil with a powerful purpose.

At a green initiative organized by the Sneh Asha Foundation at RC Mahim Mumbai Public School (BMC) in Mahim, every participating student received a plantable seed pencil. Unlike an ordinary pencil, this eco-friendly version contains seeds at one end. After the pencil becomes too short to use, students can plant the remaining stub in the soil, where it can grow into a plant.

The thoughtful gift quickly became the highlight of the event, reinforcing an important message: meaningful environmental change often begins with small, everyday actions.

Tree Plantation Drive Focuses on Long-Term Care, Not Just One-Day Activities

The plantation drive encouraged students to look beyond the ceremonial act of planting trees. Organizers emphasized that protecting and nurturing saplings is just as important as planting them.

Speaking during the event, Mrs. Siddhi Chauhan Jaiswal, Founder of the Sneh Asha Foundation, urged students to develop a lasting relationship with nature.

"Tree plantation is not just an event—it is a promise. Ceremonies end, but responsibility continues. Treat every sapling like a friend. Care for it, protect it, and help it grow."

Her message reflected a growing trend across India, where environmental organizations are focusing on improving the survival rate of newly planted trees instead of simply increasing plantation numbers.

Students from Grade 6 and above actively planted saplings within the school campus and will continue monitoring their growth over the coming months.

Mrs. Snehalata Dumbre, Superintendent (Schools), City Zone, attended the program and highlighted the importance of the Prime Minister's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign. She encouraged students to understand the role of trees in improving air quality, maintaining ecological balance, and supporting sustainable urban development.

Mrs. Siddhi Chauhan Jaiswal also connected the initiative with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' vision of "Harit Maharashtra, Samruddha Maharashtra," emphasizing that young students can play a major role in building a greener future for the state.

As the program concluded and guests departed, the newly planted saplings remained in the school garden, ready to be cared for by the students throughout the year.
