Maharashtra Speeds Up 3 Major Expressways, Nagpur to Gondia, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur Set for Faster Travel

Maharashtra is moving ahead with major road infrastructure projects in the Vidarbha region, with three access-controlled expressways planned to improve connectivity between Nagpur, Gondia, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur. The projects are being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and are planned as extensions of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway network.

Four Major Road Projects Gain Momentum in Vidarbha

The latest update covers the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway, Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway, Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway and Navegaon More-Surjagarh Greenfield Highway.

According to recent reports, MSRDC is preparing to move ahead with the next stage of tendering for these projects. The state has also been taking steps to speed up land acquisition, including administrative arrangements across the districts through which the proposed corridors will pass.

The four corridors are expected to strengthen road connectivity across eastern Maharashtra while supporting movement of people, goods and industrial materials.

Nagpur-Gondia Expressway to Cut Travel Time

The proposed Nagpur-Gondia Expressway will stretch for about 162 kilometers. The project includes connections such as the Gondia bypass and Tiroda feeder route. Official project documents describe the corridor as an access-controlled expressway designed to improve connectivity between Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia.

The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Nagpur and Gondia. The planned route will pass through multiple villages and talukas across Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts.

The government has already approved the project framework, while land acquisition and other preparatory activities are being taken forward. Maharashtra's Public Works Department has also recorded approvals related to the Nagpur-Gondia access-controlled expressway.

Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway to Improve Regional Connectivity

The Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway is planned over approximately 94 kilometers. It will create a faster connection toward Gadchiroli and link important locations across the region.

The project is part of the broader plan to extend high-speed road connectivity beyond the Samruddhi Expressway corridor. Government documents have already recorded approval of the final design and the land acquisition process for the project.

Once developed, the route is expected to make travel between Bhandara and Gadchiroli faster while improving access to surrounding towns and rural areas.

Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway Targets a Two-Hour Journey

The Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway is planned as a roughly 204-kilometer, four-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor.

The project is designed to bring down the travel time between Nagpur and Chandrapur to around two hours. The revised project alignment and land acquisition process have moved forward, with the state working to create the conditions needed for construction to begin.

The corridor is expected to provide a faster road connection to Chandrapur and improve links with the wider Vidarbha road network.

Navegaon More-Surjagarh Highway to Support Mining and Industry

The Navegaon More-Surjagarh Greenfield Highway is another important part of the regional road development plan. The proposed corridor will strengthen connectivity toward the mineral-rich areas of Gadchiroli.

The route is expected to support the movement of minerals and industrial goods, particularly as mining and steel-related activities expand in the region. Local infrastructure officials have highlighted its importance for connecting the Surjagarh mining area with industrial developments around Konsari.

Samruddhi Expressway Network Set for Wider Reach

Together, these projects are expected to expand the benefits of Maharashtra's high-speed road network deeper into Vidarbha. The Nagpur-Gondia and Bhandara-Gadchiroli corridors are particularly important to the planned eastward extension of the Samruddhi connectivity system, while the Nagpur-Chandrapur route will create another major link toward southern Vidarbha.

The projects could also improve access to markets, reduce travel time and make the movement of agricultural, industrial and mineral goods more efficient.

With land acquisition, project approvals and tender preparations progressing, Maharashtra's Vidarbha expressway network is moving closer to the next stage of development.
