Pravin Darekar Urges Fadnavis to Include Self-Redevelopment Authority in BMC Portal
MLA Pravin Darekar has asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to involve the Maharashtra Housing Self/Group Redevelopment Authority in the BMC’s upcoming AI- and GIS-enabled redevelopment platform, with a separate module for societies opting for self-redevelopment.
Mumbai, October 7, 2026: Maharashtra MLA and Chairman of the Maharashtra Housing Self/Group Redevelopment Authority, Pravin Darekar, has approached Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a formal role for the Authority in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) proposed ‘Mumbai Redevelopment Facility Portal’.
The portal is being planned as a technology-driven platform aimed at making redevelopment processes more efficient, transparent and easier to monitor across Mumbai. Darekar has proposed that his Authority be brought on board as a state-level coordinating agency and an important stakeholder in the development and implementation of the system.
According to Darekar, self-redevelopment and group redevelopment require much more than obtaining construction-related permissions. Housing societies also need assistance with financial planning, project viability, legal procedures, technical assessments and execution.
He said the Self/Group Redevelopment Authority could help societies navigate these stages by offering guidance on project procedures, financing avenues, government incentives and other support mechanisms.
Better coordination among key agencies
Darekar also highlighted the need for the proposed portal to connect the various government bodies involved in Mumbai’s redevelopment sector. Agencies such as the BMC, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) handle different aspects of housing and redevelopment.
Bringing these agencies onto a common digital framework, he said, could improve coordination, facilitate information exchange and make it easier for applicants to monitor the progress of their proposals.
He further suggested that involving the Self/Group Redevelopment Authority at the initial stage could help create a framework that can eventually be adopted for redevelopment projects in other cities and urban areas across Maharashtra.
Proposal for multi-agency panel
Darekar has also called for the formation of a joint committee to work out the structure and operational framework of the proposed portal. The panel, according to his suggestion, should include representatives from the Housing Department, BMC, MHADA, SRA, MMRDA and the Self/Group Redevelopment Authority, along with specialists from relevant fields.
A separate self-redevelopment module has also been proposed for the portal. The section could provide housing societies with tools to assess project feasibility, information on available financing avenues and facilities to monitor approvals and applications online.
Before the platform is tested through a pilot project, Darekar has recommended consultations with architects, lawyers, financial institutions, redevelopment consultants and other stakeholders.
The proposed measures are aimed at creating a single digital system through which housing societies can access information, understand project requirements and track the progress of redevelopment-related processes more effectively.
