Resonia Acquires Balsane Power Transmission Project in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Resonia Ltd has acquired a 100 per cent equity stake in Balsane Power Transmission Ltd (BPTL), taking control of an intra-state power transmission project aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s electricity transmission network.

The acquisition was completed on September 28, 2026, according to the company. BPTL is the special purpose vehicle for the transmission project, which has been planned to facilitate the evacuation of around 3 GW of power within Maharashtra.

The project covers approximately 210 km across Dhule and Nashik districts and is expected to improve the transfer of electricity across the state while supporting the integration of additional generation capacity into the existing transmission system.

Balsane Substation to Anchor Transmission Network

A major component of the project will be the development of a 765/400/220kV air-insulated substation at Balsane in Dhule.

The proposed substation will be equipped with two 1,500 MVA 765/400kV interconnecting transformers and four 500 MVA 400/220kV transformers. The facility will serve as a key node for transferring electricity across different parts of Maharashtra.

Network to Connect Key Maharashtra Transmission Nodes

The transmission system will include a combination of 765kV, 400kV and 220kV lines. The network will connect the Balsane substation with the proposed Malegaon substation and existing Shivajinagar and Vikharan substations.

The project was awarded by the Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (STU), while REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) acted as the bid process coordinator.

With the acquisition of BPTL, Resonia has taken over a project designed to add transmission capacity and improve intra-state power transfer in Maharashtra. The network is also expected to support the evacuation of power from upcoming generation capacity and strengthen connectivity between key transmission nodes in the state.
