Mumbai Vidyavihar Flyover Nears Completion, Expected to Open by October 10

Mumbai Infra Update: Vidyavihar Flyover Likely To Open By October 10 After Major Works Near Completion

The 650-metre Vidyavihar flyover connecting Ramchandra Chemburkar Road with LBS Road is nearing completion, with noise barriers being installed as the final stage. The BMC and traffic police are reviewing traffic management measures ahead of its expected opening on October 10.

Mumbai, October 8, 2026: Mumbai’s upcoming Vidyavihar flyover is approaching the final stage of construction, with most of the major work now finished. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is completing the remaining noise barrier installation and coordinating with traffic police to prepare the structure for public use. The flyover is expected to open to traffic by October 10.

Vidyavihar Flyover Reaches Final Construction Stage

The two-lane flyover spans approximately 650 metres, including a 100-metre section crossing the railway tracks at Vidyavihar station. The project also includes approach roads measuring 220 metres on the eastern side and 330 metres on the western side.

Once operational, the flyover will provide a direct connection between Ramchandra Chemburkar Road on the eastern side and Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Road on the western side, improving connectivity across the railway corridor.

The project also incorporates pedestrian access facilities around Vidyavihar railway station. The station’s ticket booking offices, station master’s office and staircases on both sides have been rebuilt as part of the development. Additionally, a pedestrian pathway within the railway premises has been linked to the adjoining sub-road through a staircase.

According to the civic body, key construction activities, including painting, road development and streetlight installation, have been completed. Noise barriers are currently being installed to help minimise noise from traffic and reduce its impact on residents living in the surrounding areas.

BMC And Traffic Police Assess Road Safety Measures

As preparations for the flyover’s opening gather pace, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar visited the project site on Thursday along with traffic police officials to assess the completed work and examine traffic management plans.

During the inspection, officials reviewed vehicle movement on connecting roads, traffic conditions at nearby junctions, signal arrangements and provisions for pedestrian safety. The discussions focused on ensuring that the new infrastructure can accommodate traffic efficiently without creating congestion on adjoining roads.

Bangar instructed the civic administration and traffic police to coordinate closely and introduce the necessary traffic control measures before the flyover opens. The emphasis was on maintaining smooth vehicle movement, improving road safety and limiting potential disruptions in the surrounding areas.

Flyover Expected To Improve Connectivity In Vidyavihar

The new flyover is expected to strengthen east-west connectivity in the Vidyavihar area by providing a road link across the railway tracks. Its opening could make travel between Ramchandra Chemburkar Road and LBS Road more convenient for motorists.

With the principal construction activities completed and final preparations underway, the BMC is working towards making the flyover operational by October 10, subject to the completion of pending work and traffic arrangements.
