NEET-UG 2026 Re-Exam: Mumbai Railways Suspend Mega Blocks on June 21 for Hassle-Free Student Travel

Mumbai: In a major relief for thousands of medical aspirants, Mumbai’s Central Railway and Western Railway have decided to cancel their routine mega blocks on June 21 to support smooth travel arrangements for candidates appearing in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.

The decision was taken to avoid disruptions in suburban train operations and ensure students can comfortably reach their examination centers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

No Mega Blocks on Mumbai Local Network

Usually, Sundays witness mega blocks on Mumbai’s suburban railway network for maintenance and infrastructure work, leading to partial suspension and delays in train services. However, authorities have announced that no such blocks will be carried out on June 21 considering the nationwide NEET re-test.

This move is expected to benefit thousands of students and their families travelling through Mumbai’s local train network.

Western Railway to Run Regular Services

According to Western Railway officials, no jumbo block will be conducted on Sunday. Instead of following the reduced Sunday schedule, suburban services on the Western line will operate normally.

Officials stated that the objective is to minimize inconvenience and provide uninterrupted transport support to NEET aspirants travelling to examination centers.

Central Railway Also Cancels Maintenance Block

Central Railway has also confirmed that no mega block will be conducted on its suburban routes during the day of the re-examination.

However, authorities have not yet clarified whether services will run on the usual Sunday timetable or shift to a regular weekday schedule. Further updates are expected closer to the examination date.

Why NEET-UG 2026 Re-Test Is Being Held

The NEET-UG re-examination is scheduled for June 21 after the original examination held on May 3 was cancelled following allegations related to a question paper leak.

With lakhs of students expected to appear for the re-test nationwide, railway authorities have prioritized uninterrupted travel arrangements to reduce exam-day stress and improve accessibility.

The temporary suspension of maintenance blocks highlights efforts to ensure a smoother examination experience for students across Mumbai.
