Mumbai: Complete List of Artificial Ponds for Ganpati Visarjan 2025

Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is not just a festival—it is an emotion that brings millions of devotees together in celebration, devotion, and community spirit. As the city gears up for the Ganpati Visarjan 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced extensive arrangements to ensure safe, smooth, and eco-friendly idol immersions. This year, a total of 288 artificial ponds have been created across Mumbai, giving devotees access to convenient visarjan spots while reducing the burden on natural water bodies.

BMC’s Green Push for Eco-Friendly Visarjan

In recent years, concerns about pollution of rivers, beaches, and lakes due to idol immersions have grown significantly. Plaster of Paris idols, synthetic paints, and heavy crowding at beaches often result in environmental hazards. To address these challenges, the BMC has adopted a proactive approach by setting up temporary ponds across every ward of the city.

The initiative aims to:

  • Reduce congestion at natural water bodies such as beaches and lakes.
  • Encourage eco-friendly celebrations by providing easily accessible alternatives.
  • Promote sustainable practices during Ganpati Visarjan.

With 288 artificial ponds spread across Mumbai, devotees will not need to travel far to bid farewell to their beloved Bappa, ensuring both convenience and environmental responsibility.

South Mumbai: Historic Landmarks to Host Facilities

South Mumbai, home to some of the city’s most iconic Ganpati pandals and immersion sites, will see artificial ponds at major landmarks. Devotees can head to:

  • Gateway of India
  • Badhwar Park
  • Jamshedji Bandar
  • Cooperage Garden
  • Girgaon Chowpatty
  • Banganga Tank

These historic locations, which already attract large crowds during visarjan, will now have additional artificial ponds to ease the flow of devotees.

Central Mumbai: Easy Access in Dense Localities

In the heart of the city, where space is often limited and crowd density is high, BMC has ensured adequate arrangements. Notable sites include:

  • Veer Sambhaji Maidan, Dongri
  • Janabai Rokde Municipal School, Mazjid
  • Mumba Devi Udyan
  • Na. M. Joshi School, Byculla
  • Veer Jijamata Bhosale Udyan

Large open spaces like August Kranti Maidan, Tardeo Police Quarters, and the BIT Building at Mumbai Central will also serve as visarjan sites, catering to thousands of devotees from nearby areas.

Western Suburbs: From Andheri to Malad

The western suburbs, known for their vibrant celebrations and massive visarjan processions, have received special attention. Some of the key locations are:

Additionally, areas like Goregaon and Malad will see multiple ponds, including Aarey Bhaskar Ground, Pandurangwadi Lake, Malad Marve Beach, and school grounds designated for visarjan.

Eastern Suburbs: Spreading Across Chembur, Ghatkopar, and Mulund

The eastern belt of Mumbai has also been extensively covered. Artificial ponds have been created at:

  • Tilaknagar Ground, Chembur
  • Gandhi Maidan
  • Bhakti Park Garden
  • Dattaji Salvi Maidan, Ghatkopar
  • Yashwantrao Chavan Maidan, Bhandup
  • Kalidas Hall and Taluka Krida Sankul, Mulund

These facilities ensure that devotees in densely populated eastern suburbs have ample options close to their homes.

Northern Suburbs: Borivali to Dahisar

The northern tip of Mumbai, which sees thousands of idols immersed every year, has also been equipped with artificial ponds. Sites include:

  • Charkop
  • Kandivali Gaothan
  • Sanjay Gandhi National Park
  • Rajda Municipal School Ground
  • General Arunkumar Vaidya Ground
  • Naytodi Ground
  • Pandurang Shastri Athawale Maidan, Dahisar

These arrangements aim to decongest popular immersion sites like Borivali and Dahisar creeks.

A Citywide Effort for Smooth Celebrations

With 288 artificial ponds citywide, BMC has ensured that no matter where devotees live—whether it is Colaba, Byculla, Andheri, Chembur, or Dahisar—they will find an eco-friendly visarjan facility nearby.

This large-scale effort highlights Mumbai’s commitment to blending tradition with sustainability. Devotees can celebrate the festival with devotion while minimizing environmental impact, making this Ganesh Chaturthi a true example of responsible celebration.
