Matunga Flower Merchants Plan ₹10 Lakh Floral Ganpati Decor With Four Themes

54th Ganesh Festival To Feature Changing Floral Displays

Matunga’s Flower Merchants Association is preparing an elaborate floral celebration for its 54th Ganesh festival, with nearly ₹10 lakh expected to be spent on flowers during the 12-day festivities.

The association plans to refresh the floral decoration four times during the festival, giving devotees a new visual theme to enjoy throughout the celebrations. The overall festival budget is expected to cross ₹15 lakh.

Six Tamil Nadu Decorators Join The Celebration

To create the detailed floral displays, the association has brought six experienced decorators from Salem district in Tamil Nadu. The decorators specialize in traditional temple decorations and will work on the different themes planned for the festival.

According to association secretary R. Arumugam, Lord Ganesha will remain at the venue for 12 days this year, with Anant Chaturdashi falling on September 25.

The association has become well known in Matunga for changing its floral decorations during the festival. The four different themes are expected to attract devotees and visitors throughout the celebration.

First Theme To Show Lord Maha Vishnu

The first floral arrangement will feature Lord Maha Vishnu in Anantashayana, the traditional reclining posture in which Vishnu rests on the serpent Ananta.

Each decoration will require around 250 kilograms of flowers, according to P. Subbaiah, president of the Matunga Flower Merchants Association and owner of Sankaracharya Flower Shop. He is coordinating the floral decoration work with the visiting team of decorators.

Flower Budget Expected To Reach ₹10 Lakh

Flowers are expected to cost around ₹250 per kilogram. With four major decorations planned during the festival, the association expects its total flower expenditure to reach approximately ₹10 lakh.

The full celebration is expected to cost more than ₹15 lakh. The expenses will be shared among the association’s 45 merchants. The festival is organized without collecting donations, making the contribution of the participating flower merchants central to the celebrations.

Matunga Prepares For A Colorful Ganesh Festival

The floral celebration adds to the lively atmosphere of Matunga during Ganesh festival season. The area is known for its large Ganesh idols, colorful pandals and strong community participation.

Several idols in the neighborhood are more than six feet tall, while festival pandals are often seen across the area at short intervals.

The association expects people from different communities to take part in the celebrations. With four floral themes planned across 12 days, the Matunga Flower Merchants Association is set to bring a distinctive blend of flowers, traditional decoration and devotion to this year’s Ganesh festival.
