Maharashtra to Add 1,756 Advanced Ambulances Under 108 Emergency Service

Maharashtra is set to strengthen its emergency healthcare network with the addition of 1,756 new ambulances under the state’s 108 emergency ambulance service. The new fleet will include advanced medical vehicles designed to provide faster and better emergency care across urban, rural, coastal and remote areas.

1,756 New Ambulances to Strengthen Maharashtra’s Emergency Services

The Maharashtra government is preparing to add the new ambulances to its emergency medical services fleet. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recently inspected the vehicles and directed officials to speed up the process of putting them into public service.

The new fleet will include 255 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances and 1,204 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances. Specialized vehicles will also be introduced to support emergency care in areas where regular ambulances may face access challenges.

The fleet will include 36 newborn ambulances, 166 bike ambulances, 15 river-boat ambulances and 10 sea-boat ambulances.

Advanced Medical Equipment Inside New Ambulances

The new ambulances are being manufactured in India and will feature modern equipment to help medical teams provide immediate care during emergencies.

Key medical facilities will include:

• ECG machines
• Transport ventilators
• Pulse oximeters
• Suction pumps
• Oxygen delivery systems
• Communication facilities for connecting medical staff with hospital doctors

These facilities are expected to help ambulance teams begin critical medical support while patients are being transported to hospitals.

Specialized Ambulances for Difficult Locations

The inclusion of bike, river-boat and sea-boat ambulances is expected to improve emergency response in locations where conventional ambulances may not be able to reach quickly.

Newborn ambulances will also provide specialized support for infants who need urgent medical attention and safe transportation to healthcare facilities.

150 Ambulances to Be Launched Under Seva Sankalp Abhiyan

As part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, 150 ambulances from the new fleet will be launched for public service. The initiative is being conducted in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

During his inspection, Shinde reviewed the medical facilities available in the ambulances and suggested changes aimed at improving their practical use and public service capabilities.

Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, Family Welfare Commissioner and National Health Mission Director Sanjay Katkar, Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Navin Sona, Sumit Facilities Director Sumit Salunkhe and senior Public Health Department officials were also present during the inspection.

Maharashtra Emergency Healthcare Network Set for Expansion

The addition of 1,756 ambulances is expected to expand the reach of Maharashtra’s 108 emergency response system and provide more specialized transportation options for patients across different parts of the state.
