Western Railway Announces 42 Ganpati Special Train Trips for Konkan Travel in September 2026

Festival Rush Relief: Extra Special Trains to Connect Mumbai, Gujarat, and Konkan During Ganesh Festival

Traveling to the Konkan region for the Ganesh festival will become easier this September as Western Railway has announced 42 special train trips to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic. Approved by the Railway Board under the Train on Demand (TOD) Extra Rush category, the additional services aim to provide more travel options for thousands of devotees heading home for the festive season.

The railway administration will operate 21 pairs of Ganpati Special trains, equivalent to 42 one-way trips, connecting major cities in Maharashtra and Gujarat with important destinations across the Konkan region.

Special Trains to Improve Festival Travel

The newly announced services will run between Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Vadodara, Vishvamitri, Udhna, and Valsad and key Konkan destinations including Thokur, Sawantwadi Road, and Ratnagiri.

The festival schedule includes:

• One pair of Mumbai Central-Thokur special trains
• Eight pairs of Mumbai Central-Sawantwadi Road trains
• Two unreserved pairs of Bandra Terminus-Ratnagiri trains
• One pair of Vadodara-Ratnagiri trains
• Six pairs of Vishvamitri-Ratnagiri trains operating on weekly and bi-weekly schedules
• Two pairs of Udhna-Ratnagiri trains
• One pair of Valsad-Ratnagiri trains

These additional services are designed to accommodate the significant increase in travel demand during the Ganesh festival.

Major Stations Included in the Route

Most of the Ganpati Special trains will operate with 22 coaches, allowing more passengers to travel comfortably during the festive period.

The trains will stop at several important stations, including:

• Borivali
• Vasai Road
• Panvel
• Roha
• Mangaon
• Khed
• Chiplun
• Sangameshwar Road
• Ratnagiri

These halts will make it easier for passengers from different parts of Maharashtra to board the special services without depending solely on regular trains.

Mumbai Central-Thokur Train Extends Beyond Konkan

One of the highlights of the special schedule is the Mumbai Central-Thokur service, which will continue beyond Ratnagiri through Madgaon, Karwar, Udupi, and Surathkal, providing improved connectivity for passengers traveling further south along India's western coast.

The extended route is expected to benefit not only Ganesh festival travelers but also passengers visiting family and relatives in Karnataka during the holiday season.

Extra Capacity to Ease Festival Rush

Every year, the Ganesh festival witnesses a massive movement of people from Mumbai and neighboring cities to their hometowns in the Konkan region. With the introduction of these additional trains, Western Railway aims to reduce waiting lists, improve seat availability, and make festival travel more convenient.

The 42 special trips are expected to ease congestion on regular services while offering passengers more flexible travel options during one of Maharashtra's busiest travel seasons.
