MHADA’s 22nd Lokshahi Din Targets Extra Housing Charges and Faster Flat Possession

MHADA’s 22nd Lokshahi Din Targets Extra Housing Charges and Faster Flat Possession

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) held its 22nd Lokshahi Din on October 12, 2026, at its headquarters in Bandra East, Mumbai. The session was chaired by MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal, who reviewed three housing-related applications and directed officials to resolve disputed fees and help eligible beneficiaries receive their homes without unnecessary delays.

MHADA Reviews Disputed Charges for a Rehabilitation Flat in Mahim

Ravindra Sawant raised concerns about nearly ₹8 lakh in charges, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), housing society formation fees, and other expenses demanded before he could take possession of his rehabilitation flat. The flat is part of the redevelopment of Bhanu Kunj, a cessed building on T.H. Kataria Marg in Mahim.

After reviewing the application, MHADA directed the concerned officials to inform the developer that GST should not be charged on the rehabilitation flat. Officials were also instructed to take the necessary steps to help Sawant receive possession as soon as possible.

Konkan Lottery Winner to Receive Flat Without Extra Infrastructure Fees

Dnyaneshwar Garkal, who won a flat in the Konkan Board’s 2021 lottery under the 20% Inclusive Housing Scheme, also presented his concerns during the hearing. He had already paid the full purchase price for the flat.

However, after receiving an Occupation Certificate for certain floors in 2026, the developer demanded an additional infrastructure development fee. Following the review, MHADA directed officials to instruct the developer not to collect the extra amount. The authority also arranged for Garkal to receive possession of his flat the following Wednesday.

MHADA Calls Developer for Hearing on Additional Flat Charges

The third application was submitted by Kalpesh Salve, who questioned additional charges demanded for a flat allotted under the 20% Inclusive Housing Scheme.

MHADA directed the concerned officials to summon the developer for a hearing and examine the issue. The review is expected to help clarify the disputed charges and determine the appropriate next steps.

Lokshahi Din Strengthens Citizen Grievance Redressal

MHADA’s 22nd Lokshahi Din provided residents with an opportunity to present housing-related concerns directly to the authority. The three cases focused on disputed fees, additional financial demands, and delays in receiving allotted homes.

By directing officials to review the complaints, communicate with developers, and take appropriate action, MHADA continues to work toward more transparent housing processes and timely possession for eligible beneficiaries.

The initiative highlights the importance of direct communication between residents and government authorities in resolving housing disputes. Regular grievance hearings can help identify problems, improve accountability, and support homebuyers and rehabilitation beneficiaries in securing their rightful homes.
