Adani Announces ₹20,000 Crore Airport City Project Across Six Indian Airports, Mumbai Region to Get Biggest Share

Adani to Build Modern Airport Cities with Hotels, Offices, Shopping, and Entertainment Hubs

India's airport infrastructure is set for a major transformation as Adani Airport City Limited (AACL) has announced plans to invest more than ₹20,000 crore in the first phase of a massive Airport City development project. The initiative will cover six major airports across five states, with Mumbai and Navi Mumbai receiving the largest share of the investment.

The project aims to turn airports into modern urban destinations where travelers, businesses, and local communities can live, work, shop, and enjoy entertainment in one connected space.

Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Become the Focus of the Mega Development

The Airport City program will be developed across 655 acres, including 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Nearly 70% of the total first-phase investment will be directed toward these two high-growth locations.

Besides Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, Airport Cities will also be developed at airports in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati. Together, the projects will create nearly 22 million square feet of commercial and mixed-use development.

Airport Cities Designed as Complete Urban Destinations

Unlike traditional airport expansions, Adani's Airport City concept goes far beyond aviation.

The developments will feature:

  • Premium hotels
  • Modern office spaces
  • Shopping centers
  • Restaurants and cafes
  • Entertainment zones
  • Convention and exhibition centers
  • Public spaces connected with airports, metro systems, and city transport

The company says these Airport Cities will be designed as walkable neighborhoods where people can easily move between transportation, business, hospitality, and leisure facilities.

Inspired by Some of the World's Most Successful Airport Hubs

According to Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), the Airport City model draws inspiration from internationally recognized airport districts that have become major business and tourism destinations.

Examples include airport developments around Singapore's Changi, Dubai International, Amsterdam's Schiphol, and Seoul's Incheon airports. These locations have successfully combined transportation with commercial and urban development, creating new economic centers around airports.

Adani plans to bring a similar model to India as the country's aviation sector continues to grow rapidly.

Adani Says Airports Can Drive Economic Growth Beyond Air Travel

Speaking about the project, AAHL Director Jeet Adani said airports today have the potential to create value that extends well beyond passenger travel.

He explained that successful airport districts around the world have become important centers for business, tourism, investment, and employment. As India's aviation market expands, integrated Airport Cities can generate new business opportunities, improve passenger experiences, and contribute to the long-term development of surrounding cities.

The company believes these projects will create thousands of jobs while attracting businesses, investors, and tourists.

Luxury Hotels and Global Partners Already Joining the Project

As part of the development, AAHL has signed hotel management agreements with IHG Hotels & Resorts to open five premium and luxury hotels across its Airport City network.

The partnership will also introduce the Kimpton luxury hotel brand to India for the first time.

In addition, Adani is working with several domestic and international partners in hospitality, retail, food and beverage, and entertainment to build vibrant commercial districts around its airports.

Sustainability Remains a Key Priority

Adani says sustainability has been built into every Airport City project from the beginning.

All six developments have received LEED Gold pre-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizing their commitment to environmentally responsible design, energy efficiency, walkability, and high-quality public spaces.

The company plans to use modern engineering and sustainable construction practices to ensure these developments meet global environmental standards.

A New Chapter for India's Airport Infrastructure

The ₹20,000 crore Airport City initiative represents one of India's largest integrated airport development programs. By combining transportation, commercial real estate, hospitality, and public infrastructure, Adani aims to create modern urban centers that support both economic growth and improved passenger experiences.

With Mumbai and Navi Mumbai leading the investment, the project is expected to reshape how airports contribute to city development, creating new business opportunities while strengthening India's position as one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets.
