Goregaon Bus-Truck Accident: 8 Injured, Including Driver and Conductor, After BEST Bus Rams Parked Truck

Mumbai, July 12, 2025 — In a serious road accident early Friday morning, a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus collided with a stationary truck on the Sewri-Dindoshi route near Vanrai Police Station in Goregaon East. The crash left at least eight people injured, including the bus driver and conductor, and caused major damage to the front of the vehicle.

The accident occurred around 6:30 am, when traffic was relatively light. BEST officials said the driver was attempting to avoid a private car that suddenly swerved in from the service road. In trying to prevent a collision with the car, the bus lost control and rammed into a parked truck on the left side of the road.

How It Happened

BEST spokesperson Sudas Sawant confirmed that the vehicle, which was operating on its regular morning route, was not overloaded at the time of the accident. However, the sudden appearance of a car cutting into the bus’s path forced the driver to make a sharp turn, which unfortunately resulted in the collision with the stationary truck.

"The front-left section of the bus was severely damaged due to the impact," said Sawant. “Our priority was to ensure the injured received immediate medical help.”

Injured Passengers and Medical Response

The injured were quickly transported to Jogeshwari Trauma Care Hospital, where they received emergency treatment. While several suffered serious injuries, hospital sources confirmed that no lives were lost and all patients are in stable condition.

The injured include:

  • Ashraf Sahid Husen (66)
  • Sitaram Gaikwad (60)
  • Bharti Mandavkar (56)
  • Sudhakar Rewale (57)
  • Pochiya Naresh Kanpochi (30)
  • Amit Yadav (35)
  • The bus driver and conductor (names not disclosed)

Police Investigation Underway

The Vanrai police have launched an investigation into the accident. Initial reports suggest that illegal roadside parking and reckless driving by the car played a major role in the incident. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops and buildings to determine the exact sequence of events.

Authorities are also likely to issue notices regarding the illegally parked truck, and the car driver, if found guilty, could face charges under traffic negligence laws.

Ongoing Traffic Concerns in Goregaon

This accident is the latest in a string of road safety issues in Goregaon and surrounding areas, where stationary vehicles, poor road design, and reckless early morning driving continue to endanger lives.

Commuters have frequently raised concerns about the lack of patrolling and regulation, especially during non-peak hours, when illegal parking and speeding are most common.

“The service road near Vanrai Police Station is often blocked with parked trucks and cars,” said a local resident. “We’ve complained many times, but no action has been taken.”

BEST Responds: Safety First

Following the incident, BEST has reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and is expected to conduct an internal review. Drivers are already trained in defensive driving, but BEST officials say more safety drills and route audits may be introduced to identify accident-prone spots.

“The driver did his best to avoid hitting the car, but the road conditions and parked truck left no room for error,” said one senior BEST official.

A Wake-Up Call for Safer Roads

This incident shines a spotlight on the urgent need for better road management in Mumbai, especially in bottleneck areas like Goregaon. Urban planners and traffic authorities are being urged to:

  • Strictly enforce no-parking zones
  • Increase surveillance during early hours
  • Improve signage and road lighting
  • Launch awareness campaigns for safer lane-switching practices

While the quick medical response helped prevent fatalities, residents hope this incident will prompt lasting change.
