BMC Chief Ashwini Bhide Launches Surprise Ground Inspections Across South Mumbai Ahead of Monsoon
Mumbai’s monsoon preparedness drive has intensified as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide conducted surprise inspections across multiple civic facilities, pumping stations, pesticide control units and municipal establishments in South Mumbai on Wednesday. The large-scale inspection drive focused on strengthening public services, reviewing pest control systems and ensuring civic machinery is fully prepared ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
The inspection comes at a time when Mumbai’s civic administration is increasing on-ground monitoring and infrastructure preparedness across key city zones. Under the leadership of BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, the civic body has accelerated field-level reviews, operational inspections and emergency preparedness measures to improve response systems before the arrival of heavy monsoon conditions in Mumbai.
Surprise Inspections Conducted Across Multiple South Mumbai Wards
The inspection drive covered several important civic locations across A, C and D wards, along with parts of the G South ward in Mumbai.
During the visit, Ashwini Bhide reviewed civic operations, staff attendance, public grievance handling systems, sanitation infrastructure and pest control mechanisms across multiple facilities.
The inspection was aimed at assessing operational readiness and ensuring that municipal departments remain fully prepared to handle monsoon-related challenges in the city.
BMC Chief Reviews Pesticide Control and Sewage Facilities
In the A ward, Ashwini Bhide visited Mumbai’s nearly 100-year-old pesticide control station located on Mint Road. She also inspected the A-2 road repair and storage station along with a sewage disposal station in the area.
In the C ward, the Commissioner reviewed operations at the road repair and storage station and also visited a student study room at S.K. Patil Garden on Kamalbai Girls’ School Road.
In the D ward, she inspected facilities at Nana Chowk and reviewed operations at another pesticide station as part of the civic inspection exercise.
The visits focused on assessing equipment functionality, operational efficiency and preparedness levels across critical municipal facilities.
Love Grove Pumping Station Inspection Highlights Monsoon Focus
One of the most important inspections during the visit took place at the Love Grove Stormwater Pumping Station in Worli under the G South ward.
The Love Grove pumping station plays a crucial role in Mumbai’s flood prevention system during the monsoon season. Ashwini Bhide reviewed preparedness measures, operational systems and machinery at the facility to ensure smooth stormwater management during heavy rainfall.
The inspection underlined BMC’s focus on drainage infrastructure and flood-control preparedness ahead of the rainy season.
Commissioner Reviews Pest Control Equipment and Operations
During the inspections, Ashwini Bhide closely examined machines and equipment used for pesticide and rodent control operations across various civic facilities.
Officials and staff demonstrated the functioning of the equipment during the visit, after which the Commissioner reviewed overall pest control operations and maintenance systems.
The review was conducted as part of BMC’s larger efforts to strengthen public health management and sanitation systems before monsoon conditions increase the risk of waterlogging and vector-related concerns.
Ashwini Bhide Interacts Directly With Staff and Citizens
Apart from infrastructure inspections, the BMC Commissioner also checked staff attendance registers and reviewed administrative functioning at various stations.
Ashwini Bhide directly interacted with sanitation workers, pest control employees, civic staff and local residents during the inspection tour. She listened to operational challenges, feedback and concerns raised by workers and citizens.
The Commissioner instructed civic officials to treat complaints received through the MARG (Management and Redressal of Grievances) application with utmost seriousness and ensure immediate action on public complaints.
She also stressed that officers and employees must work proactively and take personal initiative while maintaining civic infrastructure and resolving citizen grievances.
Senior Civic Officials Accompanied the Inspection Drive
Several senior civic officials accompanied the BMC Commissioner during the inspection exercise.
The officials included:
- Deputy Commissioner (Division 1) Chanda Jadhav
- Deputy Commissioner (Division 2) Prashant Sapkale
- Deputy Commissioner (Municipal Commissioner’s Office) Prashant Gaikwad
- Assistant Commissioner of A Ward Gajanana Bellale

With special emphasis on drainage systems, pumping stations, pest control operations and emergency civic response mechanisms, the civic body is increasing field-level monitoring across multiple wards in Mumbai.
The latest inspections indicate that Mumbai’s municipal administration is actively reviewing operational systems on the ground to improve preparedness, public service delivery and infrastructure management before the monsoon arrives.
