Major Infrastructure Project Set to Improve Travel, Trade and Regional Growth

The proposed Uttan-Virar Sea Link (UVSL) has reached an important milestone after receiving in-principle approval from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to connect with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Khardi in Virar.

The approval allows the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to move forward with plans to integrate the sea link into India's growing national expressway network, creating faster and more efficient connectivity across Maharashtra.

120-Km Coastal Corridor to Connect Mumbai With Vadhavan Port

The Uttan-Virar Sea Link will play a key role in the proposed Mumbai-Vadhavan Expressway Corridor (MVEC). Together with the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway and the JNPT-Vadhavan Port Link, the project will create a 120-kilometer fully access-controlled coastal corridor.

Once completed, the corridor will provide uninterrupted travel between South Mumbai, Vasai, Virar, Palghar, and Vadhavan Port, while also offering direct access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the national highway network.

Maharashtra Government Already Cleared the Project

The Maharashtra government has already approved the Uttan-Virar Sea Link and its planned extension to Vadhavan Port, one of India's upcoming major deep-sea ports.

The latest approval from the Union Ministry further strengthens the project's importance as a major transportation and logistics corridor for the state.

India's Longest Sea Bridge Planned

The proposed 55.12-kilometer Uttan-Virar Sea Link will include:

• A 24.35-kilometer main sea bridge
• 30.77 kilometers of high-speed approach and connector roads

After completion, the main bridge is expected to become India's longest sea bridge, creating a faster coastal route for commuters and commercial vehicles.

Modern Highway Designed for Safe and Efficient Travel

The six-lane coastal corridor has been planned with several advanced features, including:

• Emergency lanes
• Navigational spans for marine traffic
• Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technology
