Maharashtra Encourages Students and Young Innovators to Join Seva First Challenge

Maharashtra is inviting students, aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators to take part in the Seva First Innovation Challenge, a competition designed to encourage practical ideas that address real-world challenges. Applications will be accepted until October 17.

Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced the appeal during a press conference held at the Legislature Correspondents’ Hall at the Mantralaya on Saturday. The initiative is being coordinated in Maharashtra by the Department of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

According to the announcement, 3,878 participants from Maharashtra had already registered for the challenge. The state department is also extending guidance and assistance to help applicants develop and submit their ideas.

Challenge Invites Ideas Across Multiple Sectors

The competition aims to give participants a platform to propose innovative solutions to challenges affecting society and different industries. Key areas include education, artificial intelligence, agriculture, healthcare, women's safety, urban development, environmental conservation, defence and employability.

The initiative forms part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a multi-state innovation drive launched by the Union Ministry of Skill Development to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.

Participation is open to a broad range of applicants, including individual innovators, school and college students, student teams, researchers, professors, startups, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), companies, social organisations, and educational and research institutions. There is no age restriction for applicants.

Maharashtra Focuses on Increasing Rural Participation

The state government is working to ensure that students from rural areas also get an opportunity to participate in the competition. These efforts are being undertaken following directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

As part of its outreach strategy, the Department of Skill Development has entered into memorandums of understanding with Srujan Trust in Pune and Vigyan Bharati's Konkan Region to promote the initiative and support prospective participants.

Vigyan Bharati will help applicants prepare project reports and offer guidance during the process. Meanwhile, Srujan Trust will undertake awareness and publicity activities to encourage more young people to register and submit their ideas.

Initiative Seeks to Build a Culture of Innovation

Srujan Trust is also associated with the annual DIPEX conference, which gives students, startups and emerging entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their projects and innovative concepts.

Through the Seva First Innovation Challenge, Maharashtra aims to broaden access to innovation opportunities and motivate participants from both urban and rural communities to develop solutions to pressing social and economic issues.

The initiative seeks to connect creative thinking with public service by encouraging participants to transform their ideas into practical solutions across different sectors.

Application deadline: October 17. Interested applicants should check the official competition guidelines for registration procedures and eligibility requirements before submitting their entries.
