Maharashtra to Launch AI-Powered Job Matching Platform in Mumbai Suburban and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
The Blue Dot AI Economy pilot will connect jobseekers with employers, while a new Skill India International Centre in Mumbai will support advanced training and global career opportunities.
Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is taking new steps to improve employment opportunities through artificial intelligence (AI) and industry-focused skill development. The state will launch a pilot project of the Blue Dot AI Economy platform in Mumbai Suburban and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts to connect jobseekers with suitable employers based on their skills and industry requirements.
Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha announced the initiative after the state government signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with EkStep Foundation and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). The partnerships aim to improve job matching, strengthen workforce training and create better access to employment opportunities in India and abroad.
Blue Dot AI Economy to Connect Jobseekers With Employers
The Blue Dot AI Economy platform will use artificial intelligence to match candidates with suitable job opportunities based on their skills, qualifications, needs and location. The initiative will focus particularly on helping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) find workers who meet their requirements.
Developed by EkStep Foundation, the platform follows the principles of digital public infrastructure. It aims to bring jobseekers, businesses, entrepreneurs, educational institutions and other stakeholders onto a common platform to improve access to employment and economic opportunities.
The pilot project will help the government evaluate the platform's effectiveness in the two selected districts. Based on the results, the state may consider expanding the initiative to other parts of Maharashtra. Funding for the project has also been proposed.
Pilot Project to Identify Local Employment Opportunities
The AI-powered platform is designed to identify local employment needs and connect them with available skills. By understanding workforce demand across different locations, the system aims to make recruitment easier for employers and help candidates find more relevant opportunities.
The initiative will cover several important areas, including livelihoods, education, vocational training, MSME development and the economic participation of persons with disabilities.
By connecting local talent with businesses and institutions, the platform aims to improve the use of available skills and resources. It could also help businesses find suitable workers more efficiently while giving jobseekers better access to opportunities closer to home.
Mumbai to Get a Skill India International Centre
Alongside the AI-based employment initiative, the Maharashtra government has partnered with NSDC to strengthen skill development and prepare candidates for emerging job markets.
A Skill India International Centre will be established in Mumbai to support international workforce development and provide training aligned with global employment requirements.
The partnership will also support the development of global skill training institutions across six divisions of Maharashtra: Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Amravati and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
These initiatives aim to improve access to industry-relevant training and help candidates prepare for employment opportunities in different sectors.
Training in AI, Robotics, Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies
The planned skill development programs will focus on emerging technologies and industries that require specialized knowledge. Training areas will include:
- Artificial intelligence and robotics
- Automation and drone technology
- Cybersecurity and data analytics
- Industry-linked technical and vocational courses
- Future-focused skills based on changing workforce requirements
The programs will be developed with industry needs in mind, helping candidates build practical skills that can improve their employment prospects.
The government and NSDC will also work together to assess skill development programs, strengthen apprenticeship opportunities and improve coordination between training institutions and employers.
Foreign Language Training to Support International Careers
The NSDC partnership will also help candidates prepare for employment opportunities in international markets. Training programs will include German, Japanese and English to improve communication skills and help candidates meet the requirements of overseas employers.
The collaboration will support coordination with international employers and provide guidance to candidates interested in working abroad.
These efforts aim to create a stronger pathway from skill training to employment, especially for candidates seeking opportunities in countries where specialized skills and language proficiency are important.
Support for Women Entrepreneurs and Digital Businesses
The agreements also place emphasis on women's economic participation and entrepreneurship. The government and its partners will work to connect women entrepreneurs with markets, digital commerce platforms, financial literacy programs and mentorship opportunities.
These measures aim to help women develop their businesses, understand financial management and reach a wider customer base through digital channels.
The partnerships will also promote industry-linked skill development and apprenticeship training to help individuals gain practical experience and improve their readiness for employment.
Maharashtra Strengthens Its Employment and Skill Development Network
Through the two agreements, Maharashtra aims to build a more connected employment and skill development system that responds to the needs of jobseekers, businesses and emerging industries.
The Blue Dot AI Economy pilot is expected to help the state explore how technology can improve job matching and identify local workforce needs. Meanwhile, the proposed Skill India International Centre and regional training institutions will focus on preparing candidates for changing industry requirements and international career opportunities.
The initiatives are intended to improve access to employment, strengthen the skills of Maharashtra's workforce and support economic participation across different communities.
The meeting was attended by Manisha Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department; Dr. Amit Saini, Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Commissioner; Anand Mali, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society; Vaishali Sule, Deputy Secretary; Sachin Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner; Arun Kumar Pillai, NSDC Chief Executive Officer; Shailesh Bhagat, Assistant Commissioner for Skill Development in Mumbai Suburban District; and Ikpreet Singh, Program Director at EkStep Foundation.
