MSRTC NCMC Smart Card Registrations Cross 1 Crore; Mandatory For Women And Senior Citizens From September 1

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has crossed an important milestone in its move toward digital and cashless travel, with more than 1 crore passengers registering for the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

As of August 12, a total of 1,01,73,838 passengers had registered for the NCMC smart card, while 64,91,065 cards had been activated. The corporation is now preparing to make the card mandatory for selected passenger groups traveling on ST buses across Maharashtra.

NCMC Card To Become Mandatory From September 1

Starting September 1, women, senior citizens and Amrut senior citizens will be required to use the NCMC smart card while traveling on MSRTC buses.

The corporation has encouraged passengers in these categories who have not yet registered to complete the process at the earliest. The move is expected to make ticketing faster and more convenient while reducing dependence on cash payments.

The NCMC initiative is part of MSRTC’s wider effort to bring more digital services to its large passenger network and create a smoother travel experience.

Over 64 Lakh Smart Cards Already Activated

The registration numbers show strong interest in MSRTC’s digital ticketing system. While more than 1.01 crore passengers have registered for the NCMC, over 64.91 lakh smart cards have already been activated.

The smart card system is designed to simplify ticket payments and support a more convenient cashless travel process. MSRTC is gradually expanding the system to different categories of passengers as part of its digital transformation plans.

Transport Minister Highlights Passenger Response

Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said the strong response to the NCMC initiative reflects passengers’ growing acceptance of digital services.

He said the smart card system represents an important step toward modernizing public transport and improving convenience for passengers. The corporation also plans to increase the use of technology to help save passengers’ time and make their daily journeys easier.

MSRTC To Start Student NCMC Registration From August 15

MSRTC will also begin the next phase of NCMC registration for school students across Maharashtra from August 15.

Under the process, authorized representatives will visit schools to help students complete their registrations. This is expected to make the registration process easier for students and educational institutions.

MSRTC has also advised students and their parents to remain cautious and avoid registering through unauthorized centers or individuals.

Digital Ticketing Push Gains Momentum

The growing number of NCMC registrations highlights MSRTC’s push to modernize bus travel through digital technology. With the smart card becoming mandatory for women and senior citizens from September 1 and student registrations beginning August 15, the corporation is steadily expanding the reach of cashless ticketing.
