MHADA Tardeo Women’s Hostel Tender Expected Within 15 Days

23-Storey Hostel to Provide Affordable Housing for 860 Working Women

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is expected to issue a construction tender within the next 15 days for a new working women’s hostel in Tardeo, Mumbai. The proposed 23-storey facility will have accommodation for around 860 women.

The project is being planned as part of the redevelopment of the existing transit camp at MP Mill Compound in Tardeo. The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, a unit of MHADA, is responsible for taking the project forward.

MHADA Clears Tender Proposal for Tardeo Hostel

The tender proposal has received approval from MHADA’s Vice President, allowing the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board to begin the procurement process. According to officials quoted by Loksatta, the tender is expected to be released within 15 days.

Once the tender process is completed, construction work on the hostel is expected to begin. The project has received approval at MHADA’s 298th meeting, with an estimated cost of Rs 65.80 crore.

MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal is overseeing the authority’s ongoing housing and redevelopment initiatives, including projects aimed at expanding housing opportunities in Mumbai.

Hostel Planned as Part of MP Mill Compound Redevelopment

The proposed women’s hostel will be developed within the redevelopment of the transit camp at MP Mill Compound. Instead of using a separate site, MHADA is incorporating the facility into the redevelopment of the existing property in Tardeo.

The plan was originally approved by MHADA in 2021. The Housing Department has also granted permission for the project, clearing another important step toward implementation.

The 23-storey building is expected to provide a dedicated accommodation option for working women who need affordable housing in Mumbai.

Affordable Accommodation for Working Women in Mumbai

Mumbai continues to attract women from different parts of India who move to the city for jobs, education, and other livelihood opportunities. Finding reasonably priced accommodation close to workplaces can be challenging, particularly in central areas where rental costs are often high.

The proposed Tardeo hostel is designed to address part of this demand by offering accommodation at affordable rates. A facility with 860 beds could provide more housing options for women who may otherwise face high rental expenses or long daily commutes.

Tender Process to Begin Soon

The upcoming tender is the next major step for the Tardeo working women’s hostel. MHADA officials have indicated that the tender will be issued within 15 days, followed by construction after the procurement process is completed.

No official completion timeline has been announced yet. Details regarding the final allotment process, rental structure, and day-to-day management of the 860-bed hostel are also expected to be provided at a later stage.

With the tender process now moving forward, the Tardeo project marks another step in MHADA’s efforts to use redevelopment projects to create additional housing facilities in Mumbai.
