557 BDD Chawl Rehab Homes Ready for Festive Season Handover

Mumbai: A total of 557 residents of the N.M. Joshi Marg BDD Chawl redevelopment project are set to receive possession of their new homes during Navratri. The Mumbai Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has expanded the handover plan after three rehabilitation buildings reached completion.

The first two rehabilitation buildings have already received their Occupancy Certificate (OC), covering 342 homes. A third building has now been completed and is expected to receive its OC shortly, adding another 215 homes to the possession schedule.

The handover was earlier planned for the end of September but was moved to the Navratri period following a request from residents to hold the ceremony after Pitru Paksha.

Three Completed Buildings to Add 557 New Homes

The first two completed rehabilitation buildings at N.M. Joshi Marg together contain 342 homes with the required OC in place. MHADA's Mumbai Board had initially planned to hand over these homes by the end of September.

The third rehabilitation building has now been completed with 215 additional homes. Its OC is expected within a week, according to the project update.

With the third building included, the Mumbai Board has decided to hand over 557 homes during Navratri, allowing residents from all three completed buildings to receive their new residences together.

Residents to Receive Homes of Around 500 Square Feet

The BDD Chawl redevelopment program covers old and dilapidated chawls at Worli, N.M. Joshi Marg and Naigaon. The redevelopment is being carried out by MHADA's Mumbai Board as part of the state's housing redevelopment efforts.

Eligible residents of the N.M. Joshi Marg project are being provided with new rehabilitation homes measuring around 500 square feet. Many residents had supported the redevelopment process and vacated their earlier homes to make way for construction.

The completion of the three rehabilitation buildings now moves the project into an important possession stage. Under the leadership of IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of MHADA, the Mumbai Board has continued to focus on completing rehabilitation housing and moving eligible residents into their new homes.

Possession Schedule Shifted From September to Navratri

MHADA had originally planned to hand over the 342 homes with OC by the end of September. Preparations were also being considered for a formal possession ceremony.

Residents requested that the handover take place after the Pitru Paksha period. Their request was accepted, and the possession program was shifted to Navratri.

The completion of the third rehabilitation building has further expanded the ceremony. Once the expected OC is received, another 215 families will be included in the handover.

Festive Season Brings New Hope for BDD Chawl Families

The planned handover of 557 rehabilitation homes during Navratri marks a significant step for families affected by the redevelopment of the N.M. Joshi Marg BDD Chawl area.

For residents who have been waiting for their permanent homes, the festive-season possession will provide an opportunity to begin a new chapter in improved housing.

The handover will also strengthen the ongoing BDD Chawl redevelopment program, as more completed rehabilitation buildings move from construction to possession for eligible residents.
