MHADA Moves to Clear R&R Reservation Hurdle

A nearly 20-year wait for permanent housing for members of a visually impaired society in Malad-Malvani No. 8 is now showing signs of progress. The long-pending rehabilitation issue has received fresh attention from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), raising hopes that the society will finally be able to move ahead with its housing project.

MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal recently discussed the matter in detail with representatives of the Society for Visually Impaired Persons. During the meeting, the key issues affecting the development of the plot were reviewed, with directions issued to take immediate steps to address the main obstacle.

Old R&R Reservation Delayed the Project

The development of the plot had remained stalled for years because of a Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) reservation under the earlier Development Control Regulations. The reservation created a major regulatory hurdle, preventing the proposed development and rehabilitation work from moving forward.

The issue had become a significant concern for visually impaired residents who have been waiting for a permanent housing solution for almost two decades.

MHADA has now been directed to initiate the necessary process to address and remove the reservation in accordance with applicable rules. This step could help create a clearer path for the long-delayed rehabilitation project.

High Court Order Brings Additional Support

Another important development has also emerged in the matter. Following an order of the Honorable High Court, the Maharashtra Police Co-operative Housing Federation has been assured of the required support for development of the plot.

The support is expected to help address administrative and regulatory issues connected with the project. Together with the action on the R&R reservation, this could help the housing proposal move toward implementation.

Visually Impaired Residents Await Permanent Homes

Members of the Malad-Malvani society have been waiting for rehabilitation and permanent homes for nearly 20 years. Over the years, procedural requirements, development regulations and reservation-related issues prevented the project from progressing as expected.
