MHADA Joins Hands with MahaTennis Foundation to Build World-Class Tennis Training Hub in Mumbai
Landmark MoU to Create Modern Tennis Infrastructure and Support Young Talent in Maharashtra
Mumbai: In a major boost to sports infrastructure in Maharashtra, MHADA and MahaTennis Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a world-class tennis training center in Mumbai. The initiative aims to create modern facilities that will help nurture young tennis talent and prepare players for national and international competitions.
The agreement marks an important step towards strengthening sports development in Mumbai and its suburbs by creating professional-level training infrastructure for aspiring tennis players.
State-of-the-Art Tennis Centre Planned on MHADA Land in Andheri
Under the agreement, a two-acre land parcel (approximately 8,000 square metres) owned by MHADA in the Kolekalyan area of Andheri will be developed through a joint partnership model for a period of 30 years, following approval from the Maharashtra government.
The proposed project will include international-standard tennis courts, a dedicated training academy, competition-ready infrastructure and supporting sports facilities for players.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by MHADA Vice Chairman and CEO - IAS Sanjeev Jaiswal, Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board CEO Milind Borikar, along with senior officials from both organizations.
Joint Investment to Create International-Level Training Facilities
To bring the project to life, MHADA will invest ₹10 crore, while MahaTennis Foundation will contribute ₹5 crore.
Once completed, the center is expected to offer advanced coaching and professional training facilities to young tennis players from Maharashtra. The project is also expected to improve opportunities for athletes to compete at national and global levels.
MHADA Retains Ownership; Facilities Dedicated Only to Tennis Development
As per the agreement, ownership and possession of the land will remain with MHADA. No lease ownership, transfer of rights or third-party claims will be permitted under any circumstances.
All infrastructure developed under the project will continue to remain MHADA’s property.
The facility will be used exclusively for tennis coaching, practice sessions, tournaments and sports promotion activities. Any change in use will require prior approval from MHADA.
Responsibility for statutory approvals, maintenance, fire safety compliance, insurance, taxes and operational expenses will remain with MahaTennis Foundation.
Revenue Sharing and Special Benefits Included in the Agreement
According to the MoU, 40 percent of any revenue generated from non-sports commercial activities will be shared with MHADA. To ensure transparency, a separate project account and regular audit mechanism will be maintained.
The agreement also includes special provisions to support wider participation in sports. Tennis coaching facilities will be made available for MHADA and state government employees and their children.
Additionally, 20 students every year will receive free professional tennis training under the initiative.
A New Chapter for Sports Development in Mumbai
The project is expected to play an important role in creating future tennis champions from Maharashtra while giving Mumbai’s youth access to modern sports infrastructure.
With this initiative, MHADA continues to expand its role beyond housing by supporting sports, social development and public infrastructure that contribute to overall community growth.
