Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Direct Recruitment for Ex-Agniveers in Police and Uniformed Services

10% Reservation Introduced for Ex-Agniveers in Group-C Security Posts

The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a new policy to support Agniveers seeking employment in state government uniformed services after completing their military tenure.

Under the policy, ex-Agniveers will receive 10% horizontal reservation in Group-C uniformed positions across services such as the state police, fire department and coastal security.

Ex-Agniveers to Get Direct Recruitment Opportunities

The new policy allows eligible ex-Agniveers to join Maharashtra's police and other uniformed services through direct recruitment. They will not be required to appear for regular competitive recruitment examinations or repeat initial training programs.

The state will also provide upper age limit relaxation to help former Agniveers qualify for government positions after completing their four-year military service.

The decision is expected to create a clearer career path for young personnel completing their service under the Agnipath recruitment system.

Navy Agniveers to Join Coastal Security

The policy also focuses on personnel who complete their Agniveer service in the Indian Navy.

According to the state government, eligible Navy ex-Agniveers can be directly integrated into Maharashtra's coastal security system. Special relaxation in sanctioned post limits will be considered to accommodate interested Navy veterans.

The recruitment framework will also cover other uniformed services, including the Fire Department and correctional security forces.

Military Training to Support State Security Services

The Maharashtra government said the policy will allow the state to benefit from the skills and training that Agniveers gain during their military service.

The first batch of Agniveers is set to complete its four-year service period soon. The new framework is designed to provide those interested in state government employment with a direct transition into police and other uniformed roles.

By recognizing their existing military training, the policy removes the need for fresh basic training and aims to make the transition into state security services more streamlined.

Cabinet Also Revises Drought Relief Rules

Apart from the Agniveer policy, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved changes to the state's drought assistance framework.

Under the revised approach, government sub-committees will assess agricultural conditions at the circle or mandal level. This will allow authorities to consider financial assistance for affected areas that may not strictly meet the existing "Trigger-2" meteorological conditions.

The decision is intended to make drought relief more responsive to actual conditions faced by farmers at the local level.

State Plans Better Fodder Supply for Livestock

The Cabinet also approved a statewide strategy to maintain adequate supplies of feed and fodder for livestock.

The plan will focus on ensuring district-level availability of fodder and supporting livestock owners during periods when supplies may become limited.

The three decisions cover employment opportunities for former military personnel, improved drought assistance and stronger livestock support across Maharashtra.
