BMC Headquarters Set for Major Tech Upgrade With 87 AI Cameras and Paperless Meeting System

AI-Powered Security and Digital Meetings to Modernize BMC Governance

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is preparing for a major technology upgrade at its headquarters with plans to install 87 AI-enabled CCTV cameras and introduce a digital meeting management system for 237 corporators.

The two initiatives are aimed at improving security, making civic meetings more efficient and reducing the use of paper. The CCTV project is estimated to cost Rs. 3.74 crore, while the proposed digital meeting platform will cost Rs. 42.77 lakh.

87 AI Cameras to Strengthen BMC Headquarters Security

The BMC plans to replace its existing CCTV network in its heritage headquarters buildings with advanced AI-powered cameras. The new system will offer features such as real-time threat detection, facial recognition, automated alerts and intelligent monitoring.

The upgraded cameras will help security teams monitor visitors, employees and officials more effectively. The system is also expected to support quicker identification of unusual or suspicious activity.

The project includes 41 AI dome cameras, 44 AI bullet cameras and two Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras. Sahora Corporation has been selected to carry out the work. The project also includes four years of post-installation maintenance at an additional cost of Rs. 35.41 lakh.

Once approved by the BMC Standing Committee, the installation is expected to be completed within nine months.

Heritage Buildings Surveyed for Camera Installation

Before preparing the plan, BMC officials conducted a detailed survey of the heritage buildings in consultation with security personnel. The exercise was used to identify suitable locations for the new cameras and ensure effective coverage across important areas.

The Mechanical and Electrical Department prepared a detailed layout showing the proposed locations of dome and bullet cameras before starting the tender process.

A senior civic official said the new surveillance network would help prevent intentional and accidental incidents while encouraging responsible behavior among employees and visitors.

BMC Meetings to Go Paperless

Alongside the security upgrade, the BMC is also working to bring its General Body meetings and various statutory and special committee proceedings into a digital format.

Under the proposed Digital Meeting Management System, all 237 corporators will be able to access meeting agendas, supporting documents, notices, minutes and important alerts through smartphones, iPads and tablets.

The cloud-based platform is expected to make it easier for corporators to access meeting material while reducing the need to print and distribute large volumes of documents.

Digital System Could Reduce Administrative Costs

The paperless meeting system is estimated to cost Rs. 42.77 lakh. The BMC expects the initiative to reduce printing, distribution and other administrative expenses, which currently run into crores of rupees each year.

The move will also make meeting documents available digitally, helping officials and corporators access important information more quickly and conveniently.

BMC Continues Its Digital Transformation

The latest plans follow the BMC's growing focus on technology-driven civic administration. In April 2026, the BMC General Body began live-streaming its meetings on YouTube, improving public access to civic proceedings.

The proposed AI surveillance network and paperless meeting platform are expected to take this digital transformation further. Together, the projects aim to create a safer headquarters, improve access to civic information and make BMC proceedings more efficient.

Both proposals have been placed before the BMC Standing Committee for approval.
