Sachin Ahir Calls for Faster Solutions to Long-Pending MHADA Housing Concerns

Efforts to resolve long-pending housing and redevelopment concerns in Mumbai received a fresh push after Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir held a review meeting at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on rehabilitation and redevelopment matters involving several housing societies connected with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Officials reviewed residents' concerns and discussed practical steps to move stalled cases forward.

Sachin Ahir asked officials to hear residents carefully, understand the challenges they face and work toward timely and positive solutions. The meeting covered a range of issues, including alternative accommodation, redevelopment, housing allotment and ownership rights.

BDD Chawl Redevelopment Housing Allotment Under Review

A major part of the discussion focused on the BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project and the difficulties faced by residents during the lottery-based allotment of homes.

The meeting also considered demands for alternative accommodation for families from Worli BDD Chawl and residents currently staying in transit camps. Officials were asked to examine the concerns of affected families and take suitable steps to provide relief.

The focus was on ensuring that rehabilitation benefits reach eligible residents while addressing issues that may be delaying the process.

Lower Parel and Shivshakti Park Residents Seek Relief

Several individual housing society matters were also reviewed during the meeting.

The request for alternative accommodation for 10 residents of Saraswati Building in Lower Parel was discussed with the concerned officials. A representation from Tanwade and 30 other residents of 365 Shivshakti Park on N.M. Joshi Marg was also taken up.

Officials further considered a proposal to add Geetanjali Building in Byculla to a cluster of five MHADA buildings. The move could help create a more coordinated approach to redevelopment in the area.

MHADA Reviews Redevelopment and Ownership Rights Cases

The meeting covered several other pending matters involving MHADA housing societies across Mumbai.

These included rehabilitation requests concerning High Income and Low Income categories in SVP Nagar Society, permanent ownership rights for families living in Tagore Nagar's Gharkul Society, and redevelopment concerns involving Abhyudaya Nagar, Rustom Tadiwala Chawl and Shahsadan Society.

Officials provided updates on the status of these cases, while directions were given to take the required action and address residents' concerns.

MHADA Officials Join Review Meeting

MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal attended the meeting along with Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board Chief Officer Milind Shambharkar, Mumbai Division Chief Officer Milind Borikar and other senior officials.

Representatives from various housing societies also participated and placed their concerns before the officials.

The meeting highlighted the importance of speeding up long-pending rehabilitation and redevelopment cases. With focused reviews and coordination between residents and authorities, MHADA aims to move these housing matters toward practical solutions and provide greater relief to affected families.
