Model Career Centre And Lighthouse Skill Hub Launched In Thane To Strengthen Youth Employability

A new Model Career Centre (MCC) and Lighthouse Skill Development Centre have been inaugurated in Thane, aiming to strengthen youth employability through industry-oriented training and career guidance.

The initiative has been launched as a joint effort between the Thane District Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance Centre and the Lighthouse Communities Foundation. The project seeks to bridge the gap between academic education and the evolving requirements of the job market.

Inauguration Ceremony With Key Officials

The centre was formally inaugurated during a ceremony presided over by Shrikrishna Panchal, District Collector of Thane.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Ganesh Natarajan, chairman of the Lighthouse Communities Foundation, and Anuja K. Bansal, the organisation’s CEO.

Officials highlighted that the new facility will provide structured career guidance and skill development opportunities for young job seekers in the region.

Focus On Industry-Driven Skills

Speaking at the event, Panchal emphasised the importance of aligning education with real-world industry demands.

He said that in the current job market, a traditional academic degree alone may not be sufficient, and young people must develop practical skills that match the needs of employers.

To address this gap, the centre will offer training programmes in several emerging sectors, including:

Electric vehicles (EV) technology

Drone operations and technology

Digital marketing

Graphic design

These areas have seen increasing demand across industries, creating new employment opportunities for skilled professionals.

Public-Private Partnership Model

The centre will operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, combining government support with expertise from industry and non-profit organisations.

Through this collaborative approach, the programme aims to deliver specialised training in roles that are currently witnessing high demand. These include positions such as nutritionists, fitness trainers and other healthcare-related professions.

By focusing on practical training and employability skills, the initiative aims to help young people become job-ready while supporting local industries that require skilled workers.

Encouraging Youth Participation

The inauguration event concluded with the felicitation of meritorious students and the release of a commemorative booklet highlighting the objectives of the initiative.

Officials said the new centre represents an important step toward creating a stronger skill development ecosystem in Thane, helping youth gain the competencies required to succeed in a rapidly changing job market.

With training programmes designed around industry requirements, the Model Career Centre and Lighthouse Skill Development Centre are expected to play a key role in enhancing employment opportunities for young people in the region.
