Sachin Ahir Visits Kurla Landslide Site, Assures Relief and Permanent Rehabilitation for Families

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir visited the landslide site near Gaushia Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Kurla, on Wednesday and reviewed the ongoing rescue operation after the tragedy claimed six lives.

Ahir described the incident as deeply painful and said the government and civic administration were taking immediate steps to support the affected families. He also stressed the need for permanent rehabilitation of residents living in vulnerable areas.

Sachin Ahir Reviews Rescue Operations in Kurla

During his visit, Ahir inspected the landslide site and spoke with officials involved in the rescue effort. Teams from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Fire Brigade and other agencies had reached the location soon after receiving information about the incident.

Ahir said the rescue operation was being carried out under difficult conditions. During his inspection, rescuers successfully pulled one person alive from beneath the debris. Two other people were still feared trapped under the rubble at the time.

He praised the fire brigade and civic teams for their quick response and continued efforts at the site.

₹4 Lakh Financial Aid Announced for Victims’ Families

Ahir said the administration had been instructed to provide financial assistance of ₹4 lakh to each victim’s family. The amount will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of the affected families.

He also said he would seek additional assistance for the families through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to provide further support during this difficult period.

The announcement is aimed at giving immediate financial relief to families who have lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

Focus on Permanent Rehabilitation of Kurla Residents

Beyond immediate relief, Ahir highlighted the urgent need to provide safe and permanent housing to residents living in vulnerable locations.

He said every citizen has the right to live in a safe home and emphasized that families affected by the landslide should be moved to safer locations and rehabilitated without unnecessary delay.

Ahir also said he would discuss the rehabilitation issue with the state Deputy Chief Minister and push for solutions to long-pending housing concerns in the area.

Push to Restart Shivshahi Rehabilitation Project

A key part of Ahir’s visit was his call to revive the stalled Shivshahi Rehabilitation Project. He said restarting the project could help address the long-standing rehabilitation needs of residents in the area.

The project is expected to be discussed with the state government as part of broader efforts to find a permanent housing solution for families living in vulnerable conditions.

Ahir stressed that rehabilitation should not only focus on those affected by the current landslide but should also help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Safety and Rehabilitation Remain a Priority

The Kurla landslide has once again highlighted the importance of identifying vulnerable residential areas and taking preventive action before disasters occur.

Ahir called for residents in unsafe locations to be shifted to secure housing and said permanent rehabilitation should be treated as a priority. He emphasized that immediate relief, long-term housing and preventive measures must move forward together.

The visit also underlined the need for stronger coordination between government agencies and civic authorities to protect residents and respond quickly during emergencies.
