Maharashtra Launches Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme 2026 With Up To ₹2 Lakh Relief For 56 Lakh Farmer Families
State Begins First Phase of Loan Waiver With Beneficiary Lists Released Across Seven Districts
The Maharashtra Government has officially launched the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Loan Waiver Scheme 2026, bringing major financial relief to lakhs of farmers across the state. Under the new scheme, eligible farmer families can receive a farm loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakh, with around 56 lakh families expected to benefit.
Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil announced the launch by releasing the first representative list of eligible beneficiaries from seven districts. The state government said the scheme will help reduce farmers' financial stress and encourage them to continue farming with greater confidence.
Loan Waiver Aims To Support Farmers And Strengthen Agriculture
Speaking to the media, Babasaheb Patil described the scheme as a landmark decision for Maharashtra's farming community. He said the government has planned loan waivers of up to ₹2 lakh for eligible farmers to reduce debt and improve their financial stability.
The minister also said the launch of the first beneficiary list coincided with the birthday of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the birth anniversary of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
According to the government, the scheme is not limited to clearing farm loans. It also aims to help farmers restart agricultural activities without the burden of unpaid debt. Officials said the Cooperation Department is implementing the scheme on priority.
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved the scheme on June 2, 2026. Later, the government revised some eligibility conditions through a Government Resolution issued on July 15, 2026.
Banks Upload Farmer Loan Data For Faster Implementation
To speed up implementation, 53 banks have already uploaded farmers' loan account details to a digital portal developed by MahaIT.
These banks include:
- 30 District Central Cooperative Banks
- 12 nationalized banks
- Several private sector banks
The uploaded data covers both the loan waiver component and the one time settlement process under the scheme.
Officials from the Cooperation Department have completed the verification of loan records submitted by District Central Cooperative Banks. The department has also identified applicants who do not qualify under the scheme.
Who Is Not Eligible For The Loan Waiver
The government has excluded certain categories of people from receiving benefits under the scheme. These include:
- Current and former elected representatives
- Office bearers of local self government institutions
- Government and semi government employees
- Income tax payers earning non agricultural income
- Employees and office bearers of cooperative banks
- Employees of sugar factories, spinning mills, milk unions and market committees
After completing computer based verification, the government prepared the final list of eligible beneficiaries.
First Beneficiary List Covers Seven Districts
In the first phase, Maharashtra has released a representative list of 532 eligible beneficiaries from seven districts.
Officials said this is only the beginning of the larger implementation process. More beneficiary lists will be released after verification is completed across the remaining districts.
The government will also display beneficiary lists at Gram Panchayat offices, cooperative societies and the concerned bank branches so that farmers can easily check their status.
Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory Before Benefit Transfer
Eligible farmers will receive an SMS on their registered mobile number asking them to complete Aadhaar authentication.
Every beneficiary will receive a unique identification number for verification. Farmers can complete this process through nearly 32,000 Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendras operating across Maharashtra.
Before Aadhaar authentication, farmers must register on the AgriStack platform, which has become an important part of the verification process for agricultural schemes.
After successful verification, the approved loan waiver amount will be transferred directly to the farmer's loan account through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. This process ensures faster payments and improves transparency.
Government Targets Completion By End Of July
The Maharashtra Government plans to complete the verification and benefit transfer process for all eligible borrowers linked to District Central Cooperative Banks by July 31, 2026.
After completing this phase, the government will begin processing loan waiver benefits for eligible farmers who have borrowed from commercial banks.
The state administration believes the digital verification system, Aadhaar authentication and Direct Benefit Transfer will make the implementation faster and reduce delays. The scheme is expected to provide significant financial relief to millions of farming families while supporting agricultural growth across Maharashtra.
