Maharashtra Cabinet Clears ₹80.12 Crore for Gadchiroli Sports Complex Phase II Expansion
New Sports Facilities Planned to Support Young Athletes in Remote Areas
The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved ₹80.12 crore for the Phase II development of the Gadchiroli District Sports Complex, marking a major step toward improving sports infrastructure in the district.
Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar said the additional investment will help create modern sports facilities and provide better opportunities for young athletes, particularly those from remote and Naxal-affected areas.
The project is aimed at bringing more young people into mainstream activities through sports while giving talented athletes from Gadchiroli access to facilities that can support their growth at the state and national levels.
Maharashtra Steps Up Investment in Sports Infrastructure
The state government has been developing the Gadchiroli sports complex in phases. Earlier, ₹23 crore was allocated for the project, allowing several facilities to be completed and opened for athletes and local residents.
These facilities include a swimming pool, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball grounds, a cement basketball court, a badminton hall and a sports hostel.
The development has already created more opportunities for residents to participate in sports and has strengthened the district's sports infrastructure.
Phase II to Add Indoor and Modern Sports Facilities
The second phase will further expand the complex with facilities designed to support both indoor and outdoor sporting activities.
A gymnasium, administrative building and an indoor badminton hall with four courts have already been completed at the new site. Work on a dome-shaped multigame hall is also progressing, with around 80 percent of construction completed.
The new facilities are expected to give athletes a better environment for regular training, competitions and skill development.
Cabinet Approval Clears Funding for Next Phase
The Directorate of Sports had submitted a proposal requesting ₹80.12 crore for the Phase II development work.
The proposal received approval from the High-Powered Committee during its meeting on June 17, 2026. With the Maharashtra Cabinet now approving the estimated project cost, the funding process for the next phase has received a major boost.
Gadchiroli Youth to Get Better Opportunities in Sports
Pawar said the government wants young people from remote and Naxal-affected parts of the state to receive greater opportunities through sports. The focus is on creating quality infrastructure that can help athletes identify and develop their talent.
The expanded Gadchiroli District Sports Complex is expected to play an important role in building a stronger sporting culture in the district. With modern facilities and improved training opportunities, the project could help more local athletes compete successfully at state and national levels.
The Phase II investment reflects Maharashtra's broader focus on expanding sports infrastructure beyond major cities and creating better opportunities for talented youth across the state.
