MHADA Resolves Home Possession Dispute Through Lokshahi Din, Applicant Gets Flat After Fee Hurdle
Dnyaneshwar Garkal Receives His Flat After MHADA CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal Directs Officials to Address Additional Infrastructure Fee Dispute.
MHADA has helped a lottery winner secure possession of his home after resolving a long-pending complaint through its Lokshahi Din initiative. Dnyaneshwar Garkal, who won a flat under the Konkan Board’s 20% Comprehensive Housing Scheme in 2021, received possession after facing delays due to an additional infrastructure development fee demanded by the developer.
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) acted promptly after Garkal raised the issue during the 22nd Lokshahi Din held on October 12, 2026. Following directions from MHADA Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, the concerned officials took action to resolve the matter and help the applicant obtain his rightful home.
MHADA Lottery Winner Faces Delay Over Additional Fees
Winning a home through a MHADA lottery is an important milestone for many families. However, Dnyaneshwar Garkal could not take possession of his allotted flat despite paying the full sale price after winning the lottery under the 20% Comprehensive Housing Scheme in 2021.
The possession process remained pending because the developer was demanding an additional amount in the name of infrastructure development charges. The demand created difficulties for Garkal, who had already completed the payment for his flat.
To resolve the issue, he approached MHADA through its Lokshahi Din grievance redressal program and requested assistance from the authorities.
Sanjeev Jaiswal Directs Officials to Resolve the Complaint
During the 22nd Lokshahi Din on October 12, 2026, MHADA Vice Chairman and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal took up Garkal’s complaint and directed the concerned officials to examine the additional fee issue and take immediate steps to ensure possession of the flat.
Following these instructions, the authorities acted promptly, enabling Garkal to receive possession of his home. The intervention brought an end to his prolonged wait and helped resolve a housing issue that had remained pending despite the payment of the full sale price.
MHADA’s Lokshahi Din Helps Citizens Resolve Housing Issues
The case highlights the role of Lokshahi Din as a direct platform for citizens to present grievances to the administration and seek timely solutions. The initiative allows applicants to discuss their concerns with senior officials and the departments responsible for resolving their cases.
Through this process, MHADA aims to improve transparency, accountability, and responsiveness while addressing housing-related complaints. Issues involving flat possession, allotment procedures, additional charges, and other pending matters can be brought before the authorities for review.
The resolution of Garkal’s complaint demonstrates how direct communication between citizens and officials can help move delayed cases toward a solution.
MHADA Organizes Lokshahi Din on the Second Monday of Every Month
MHADA has been organizing Lokshahi Din on the second Monday of every month at its headquarters auditorium in Bandra East, Mumbai, since January 2024.
Under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, 22 Lokshahi Din programs have been held to provide citizens with an opportunity to raise their concerns directly before the administration.
The initiative also includes reviews of action taken on complaints received during previous sessions. Before each Lokshahi Din, Jaiswal reviews the progress made by the concerned officials, helping the administration monitor pending cases and improve the grievance redressal process.
MHADA Encourages Citizens to Raise Pending Grievances
MHADA has encouraged citizens to use Lokshahi Din to bring forward housing-related concerns and other unresolved issues. The platform is particularly useful for applicants facing delays in flat possession or difficulties in completing housing-related procedures.
The successful resolution of Dnyaneshwar Garkal’s complaint serves as an example of how the initiative can help citizens seek timely administrative support. By providing a direct channel for communication and follow-up, MHADA aims to strengthen public trust and make housing services more accessible, transparent, and accountable.
