Maharashtra Approves ₹61.03 Crore for EV Incentives, Toll Exemptions, and Heavy Electric Vehicles

Maharashtra Approves ₹61.03 Crore for EV Incentives, Toll Exemptions, and Heavy Electric Vehicles

The Maharashtra government has approved ₹61.03 crore in funding under its Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 to promote electric mobility and support cleaner transportation across the state. The approved amount includes ₹11.08 crore to reimburse toll exemptions on three major road links, ₹5 crore for heavy electric vehicles, and ₹44.95 crore to settle incentive claims submitted by vehicle manufacturers.

The decision follows a committee meeting held on September 22, 2026, under the leadership of the Additional Chief Secretary (Transport). The committee reviewed the distribution of demand-based incentives under the state’s EV policy.

₹11.08 Crore Approved for Electric Vehicle Toll Exemptions

The government has allocated ₹11.08 crore to reimburse toll exemptions provided to eligible electric passenger vehicles on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu.

Of this amount, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will receive ₹8.48 crore, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will receive ₹2.59 crore.

The toll exemptions are intended to make electric vehicle ownership more attractive by reducing travel expenses for eligible vehicle owners. The reimbursement will also help compensate the infrastructure agencies for the toll revenue they have forgone under the state’s electric mobility initiative.

₹5 Crore Incentive for Heavy Electric Vehicles

The Maharashtra government has also approved ₹5 crore for IPL Tech Electric Private Limited to support heavy electric goods vehicles in the N2 and N3 categories.

These categories cover medium and heavy commercial vehicles used to transport goods. Encouraging the use of electric vehicles in freight transportation can help reduce emissions and support the shift toward cleaner commercial mobility.

However, wider adoption of heavy electric vehicles will also depend on vehicle prices, charging facilities, and the operational needs of transport businesses.

₹44.95 Crore to Clear Vehicle Manufacturers’ Claims

The largest portion of the approved funding, ₹44.95 crore, will go toward incentive claims submitted by vehicle manufacturers through the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Incentive Portal.

The amount will be distributed through a separate account maintained with ICICI Bank. This allocation is expected to support the implementation of the state’s EV incentive program by providing funds against eligible claims submitted by manufacturers.

Maharashtra Strengthens Its Electric Mobility Push

The latest approval reflects Maharashtra’s continued efforts to encourage electric vehicle adoption through financial support for manufacturers, infrastructure agencies, and eligible vehicle owners.

By combining toll relief with incentives for heavy electric vehicles and manufacturer claims, the state aims to make electric mobility more accessible while supporting cleaner transportation. Continued investment in charging infrastructure and affordable electric vehicle options will also play an important role in the long-term growth of the sector.
