Computer Engineering Leads Maharashtra Admissions With 28,000+ Students Choosing the Branch

Computer Engineering has emerged as the top choice among engineering students in Maharashtra for the 2026-27 academic year, with more than 28,000 admissions recorded across the state.

Engineering Admissions Rise Across Maharashtra

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell has released the final engineering admission figures for the 2026-27 academic year. A total of 1,81,927 students secured admission across 387 engineering colleges offering 111 programs.

The admission process concluded on September 14. The total number of admissions increased by 15,181 compared with the previous academic year, when 1,66,746 students enrolled in engineering programs.

The latest figures included 1,14,121 male students and 67,806 female students, showing continued interest in engineering education across Maharashtra.

Computer Engineering Remains the Most Popular Branch

Computer Engineering recorded the highest number of admissions, with 28,170 students selecting the branch.

The strong demand reflects continued student interest in technology-focused education and careers in software, computing and digital industries.

Mechanical Engineering ranked second with 19,702 admissions, followed by Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 18,895 admissions.

Computer Science and Engineering recorded 18,277 admissions, while Information Technology attracted 15,219 students.

Civil Engineering received 14,213 admissions, and Electrical Engineering recorded 11,726 admissions during the final admission process.

AI and Data Science Programs Attract Students

Emerging technology programs also recorded significant interest among Maharashtra students.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Science registered 10,502 admissions, making it one of the prominent technology-focused choices in the state.

Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning received 6,650 admissions. Another 4,606 students selected Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning programs.

A separate branch classification for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science recorded 4,115 admissions, highlighting the growing demand for programs focused on artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies.

Pune Leads University-Wise Engineering Enrolment

Savitribai Phule Pune University-affiliated engineering colleges recorded the highest university-wise enrolment, with 64,822 admissions.

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, followed with 34,385 admissions, while engineering colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai recorded 32,126 admissions.

Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University recorded 17,084 admissions. Shivaji University, Kolhapur, followed with 9,921, while Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University recorded 9,571 admissions.

Pune Tops District-Wise Engineering Admissions

Pune remained the leading district for engineering admissions, with 49,616 students joining colleges in the district.

Nagpur ranked next with 18,921 admissions, followed by Nashik with 12,469.

Mumbai Suburban recorded 11,421 admissions, while Thane colleges enrolled 11,236 students. Kolhapur recorded 10,828 admissions.

Other districts also recorded substantial enrolment. Ahilyanagar registered 6,705 admissions, followed by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 6,451, Solapur with 5,962, and Raigad with 5,325 admissions.

The overall admission figures point to strong demand for engineering education across Maharashtra, with computer-related and emerging technology programs attracting particularly high interest from students in the 2026-27 academic year.
