Thane Accelerates Jalyukt Shivar 2.0 and Water Conservation Projects Ahead of Monsoon
Thane: To strengthen water security and improve groundwater levels across the district, the Thane administration has decided to speed up work under the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan 2.0 and several other water conservation initiatives before the monsoon intensifies.
During a review meeting held at the Collector’s office, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal directed officials to complete all pending works quickly while maintaining quality standards. The administration is giving priority to desiltation of water bodies, stream deepening, widening works and watershed development projects.
More Than 95% of Planned Projects Already Completed
Officials reviewed the progress of 1,374 planned projects under Jalyukt Shivar 2.0 in Thane district. Out of these, 1,321 works have already been completed, achieving around 95.4% progress.
The completed projects have been carried out using a total budget of ₹4,414.91 lakh, marking significant progress in improving water storage and conservation infrastructure across the district.
PMKSY Projects Bring Additional Support to Rural Areas
Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) watershed development programme, projects worth ₹763.69 lakh are underway in nine villages of Shahapur taluka.
Out of 208 planned works, 183 projects have been completed so far. In addition, financial support amounting to ₹108.40 lakh has been provided directly to women’s self-help groups to encourage community participation.
Collector Calls for Faster Completion Before Heavy Rainfall
With the monsoon season approaching, the District Collector stressed the need to finish the remaining work without delay.
He instructed officials to pay special attention to removing accumulated silt from water bodies that are over 50 years old, helping restore their original storage capacity and increase water availability.
Dr. Panchal also encouraged farmers and local citizens to actively participate in the ‘Silt-Free Dam, Silt-Rich Farm’ campaign.
Desiltation and Stream Improvement Work Intensifies Across District
As part of the ongoing conservation drive, desiltation work is currently being carried out at 16 water bodies, where nearly 45,715 cubic metres of silt has already been removed.
For the financial year 2026–27, administrative approval has been granted for 68 new projects, with authorities targeting completion before July 15.
Major stream widening and deepening projects are progressing rapidly in Murbad, Shahapur and Bhiwandi, while monitoring through the government’s Avani App is being used to ensure transparency and real-time progress tracking.
Administration Pushes for Coordinated Action
Concluding the meeting, Dr. Panchal instructed all departments to work together in close coordination and complete the remaining projects on priority to minimize disruptions during the rainy season and strengthen long-term water conservation efforts across Thane district.
