Maharashtra Monsoon Session 2026: Government to Table 10 Key Bills, Women Farmers Set to Get Legal Recognition
CM Devendra Fadnavis Announces Major Legislative Agenda with Focus on Farmers, Water Management and Public Welfare
The Maharashtra government is preparing for an important Monsoon Session of the state legislature with plans to introduce 10 significant bills, including a landmark proposal that aims to officially recognize women as farmers.
Ahead of the three-week session beginning Monday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis outlined the government’s priorities and said the focus would remain on development, public welfare and constructive discussions inside the Assembly.
Women Farmers to Receive Official Legal Status in Maharashtra
One of the most important announcements made by the Chief Minister was the introduction of a new law that seeks to grant legal recognition to women farmers.
If passed, the legislation will formally identify women engaged in agriculture as farmers and allow them to access government schemes, benefits and rights available to cultivators. The move is expected to strengthen women’s participation in agriculture and improve financial and institutional support for them.
According to the Chief Minister, this decision reflects the government’s broader objective of creating inclusive policies that directly benefit ordinary citizens.
Government Calls for Meaningful Debate During Monsoon Session
Addressing the media before the session, Fadnavis said the government is ready to discuss every issue raised by the opposition and prefers dialogue over political confrontation.
He stated that the administration intends to maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach during the session and is prepared to answer questions through open discussion.
The Chief Minister emphasized that governance should focus on public interest rather than political disagreements.
₹36,585 Crore Farm Loan Waiver to Support 56 Lakh Farmers
Highlighting farmer welfare initiatives, Fadnavis defended the state’s large-scale farm loan waiver programme.
The government’s ₹36,585 crore loan waiver package is expected to benefit nearly 56 lakh farmers across Maharashtra.
He clarified that the decision was not linked to any electoral considerations and was introduced to provide relief to farmers facing difficult agricultural and financial conditions.
The Chief Minister said the state remains committed to supporting the farming community and may review implementation guidelines if genuine concerns emerge.
Delayed Monsoon Raises Concern Across Maharashtra
Fadnavis also expressed concern over the impact of delayed rainfall across the state.
He noted that Maharashtra is currently witnessing drought-like conditions in several regions due to the influence of El Niño and weak monsoon activity.
According to the government, rainfall during June has remained significantly below normal levels. Regions including Konkan and Marathwada have recorded major deficits, affecting water availability and farming activities.
Reservoir storage levels are also lower compared to last year, increasing pressure on water management efforts.
Government Restricts Reservoir Releases, Advises Farmers to Delay Sowing
To ensure drinking water availability, the state government has temporarily restricted irrigation water releases from reservoirs.
Farmers have been advised not to begin sowing immediately and instead wait until at least 100 mm of rainfall is received.
At the same time, the government assured that there is no shortage of seeds, fertilizers or LPG supply and arrangements are in place to support agricultural activities once conditions improve.
Political Signals and Action Against Drug Networks
The press conference also saw comments on the changing political landscape in Maharashtra.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hinted that further political developments could unfold in the coming days, while Chief Minister Fadnavis made remarks indicating confidence in the ruling alliance’s position.
On law and order, Fadnavis reiterated the government’s commitment to taking strict action against drug trafficking networks.
He stated that several steps had already been taken over the past year and assured that the campaign against narcotics would become stronger in the coming months.
Maharashtra Government Sets Development and Public Welfare Agenda for Monsoon Session
With 10 major bills lined up for discussion, farmer welfare measures, water conservation planning and legislative reforms are expected to dominate the Maharashtra Monsoon Session 2026.
The proposed legal recognition for women farmers stands out as one of the most significant policy moves and could become an important milestone for agricultural reforms in the state.
