MHADA Completes Proceedings for R-1, R-4, R-7 and R-13 Plots; Work Orders Completed for 2,343 Flats

MHADA Clears Key Proceedings for R-1 and R-4 Plots

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has achieved another important milestone in the large-scale redevelopment of the BDD Chawls in Worli. The authority has completed the required proceedings for the R-1 and R-4 plots and finalized the development process for 2,343 residential flats planned on the R-7 and R-13 plots.

Work Orders Issued for 2,343 Flats on R-7 and R-13 Plots

Following the completion of administrative and planning formalities, MHADA has officially issued work orders for the project. The next major step will be the groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to mark the beginning of construction activities on these plots.

BDD Chawl Redevelopment to Transform Worli Housing

The BDD Chawl redevelopment project is one of Mumbai’s largest urban renewal initiatives. It aims to replace aging residential buildings with modern, earthquake-resistant apartment towers equipped with improved infrastructure, better public amenities, landscaped open spaces, community facilities, wider internal roads, and upgraded civic services. The redevelopment is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for thousands of resident families while transforming one of the city’s oldest housing colonies.

New Homes Move Closer to Reality

The issuance of work orders for the R-7 and R-13 plots represents another major phase in the project’s implementation. Once construction begins, thousands of new homes will move closer to reality, supporting MHADA’s objective of delivering safe, modern, and sustainable housing in central Mumbai.

Faster Progress Across Multiple Phases

In recent months, MHADA has accelerated several components of the BDD redevelopment. Internal work on hundreds of redeveloped flats has already been completed in other phases, rehabilitation planning has progressed steadily, and approvals from multiple government departments have continued to move forward. The latest progress on the R-1, R-4, R-7, and R-13 plots further demonstrates the authority’s commitment to maintaining project momentum.

Sanjeev Jaiswal’s Leadership Helps Speed Up Redevelopment

A significant part of this progress has been driven under the leadership of IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of MHADA. Since assuming charge, Jaiswal has focused on speeding up housing projects, reducing administrative delays, improving coordination among government agencies, and ensuring that long-pending redevelopment schemes move from planning to execution. His emphasis on faster decision-making and timely implementation has helped advance several major MHADA redevelopment projects across Mumbai, including the BDD Chawl redevelopment.

Another Major Step for Mumbai’s Housing Mission

Officials believe that beginning construction on these 2,343 flats will represent another major achievement in Mumbai’s housing redevelopment efforts. As work progresses, the project is expected to create modern residential communities while preserving the redevelopment commitments made to existing residents. The planned groundbreaking ceremony will officially launch the next construction phase, bringing the ambitious BDD Worli redevelopment project another step closer to completion.
